Kieran's eyes widened in horror as Alex aimed the gun at Emily's sister. "Alex, no!" Maya screamed, rushing towards her brother.
But Alex was unmoved. "You're just a pawn in a much bigger game," he spat at Emily's sister. "And pawns are expendable."
Kieran knew he had to act fast. He lunged at Alex, grabbing his wrist and twisting it until the gun fell to the ground.
Alex snarled, struggling against Kieran's grip. But Kieran held firm, his eyes blazing with anger.
"How could you, Alex?" Maya asked, her voice trembling. "You're my brother. How could you betray us like this?"
Alex's expression twisted into a sneer. "You're just naive, Maya," he said. "You think the world is black and white, but it's not. It's gray. And sometimes you have to make hard choices to survive."
Kieran's grip on Alex's wrist tightened. "You're not going to survive if you keep working with The Shadow," he growled.
But before Kieran could do anything else, The Shadow's operatives burst into the room, guns blazing.
