(Cassie's POV)
I thought I had steeled myself for anything, but the scene before me was a heart-wrenching betrayal unfolding in real-time.
As I observed them both, the reality hit me.
Max inclined towards Violet and pressed his lips to hers. I inhaled deeply, my pulse quickening. A whirlwind of rage and revulsion swirled within me. My flesh prickled, and I felt nauseated as I gazed at the indelible image before me.
"Stay away from the house," Max murmured as he withdrew. "Cassie might grow suspicious."
Violet reclined her head, a cunning grin playing on her face. "She's likely asleep by now, and it's not really important," she remarked, lifting her shoulders as she ran her fingers over his chest enticingly.
"It is important," Max disagreed, his voice slightly lower. "My wife will always be my wife."
