(Cassie's POV)
Max swiftly addressed Violet, his voice resolute and overly eager. "Violet, I believe we should wrap up for today." He flashed her a smile.
"Very well," she responded promptly, collecting her belongings without comment. She took some papers with her and arranged others on the table.
"Farewell," she said, her eyes meeting Max's with a glimmer. Max gave her a casual nod.
I inwardly sneered.
The moment she departed, Max turned to me, a gentle smile playing on his lips.
"Come here," he invited, stepping forward to embrace me.
I retreated, evading his touch. "No, it's fine," I replied lightly, forcing a small grin.
His forehead creased. "Is everything alright?" he inquired, worry evident in his voice.
I let out a brief chuckle, hugging myself. "I'm just a bit chilly," I explained. "And your body must be cool right now too. I'd rather not feel that against my skin."
