Chapter 9

I wasn't shocked when he discovered my hotel. Given the Jordan Family's connections in Heltic, it was hardly a challenge.

I had just finished my evening meal when I felt a sudden tug. Keith's face was crimson with anger, his grip on my arm growing tighter. "Zoey, why did you get rid of your parents' house? Where are you going? Are you abandoning me? Didn't you always dream of being my wife? We could wed right away!"

He clutched the family register to his chest, shoving it in my face as if to persuade me. I merely gave a faint smile. "Keith, I won't marry you—not tomorrow, not ever."

"I've told you repeatedly—I don't have feelings for you anymore!"

"Why don't you care for me now? Is it because of my words on that rainy day?"

I exhaled deeply. Perhaps that played a part, but those words were just the beginning. Keith and I inhabit completely different realms. For six years, I pursued him, but now I'm exhausted and drained. I've finally learned to value myself.
