As the warm, bright golden hue of the morning sun rays fell through Vincent's motel room window.
Vincent jumped of the bed and hurried off to wash up, in preparation for the trials by 11:30 am today at Moshood Abiola stadium. After having his bath, Vincent went back to his room he checked his watch.
'9:30 am '
'Fuck am late!' Vincent exclaimed.
"Please let there be no traffic today Lord," he mumbled prayerfully.
Vincent hurriedly put on a pair of shorts and a nice vintage shirt from his dad's collection, then he wore his socks and just put on a pair slides.
A few minutes later, he ate a light breakfast he bought in the motel, then he rechecked his sports bag to see if his kit was complete and then he headed of to the stadium, after handing in his keys to the receptionist.
After leaving the motel , Vincent entered a motorcycle to the stadium. By the time he arrived there were already more than seventy young soccer players waiting to participate in the trials held by joint bodies, majorly large organizations held one a year.
He quickly changed into his kit and joined the others on the pitch as it was his first time here. Vincent stood alone at the edge of the crowd waiting for the coach and scouts to arrive.
"Good morning to all..." A somewhat short middle aged man bellowed to to the crowd.
"I believe everyone here is registered for the trials appropriately." He questioned.
"Yes sir," he received a somewhat resounding response from the crowd.
Nodding his head in satisfaction, he introduced his name as Coach John Akanji.
"My job here today is to lead the soccer trials, and your job is to do your best, impress me and the group over there, " he continued while motioning towards the only audience we had.
"This is a two day long trial, today and tomorrow only," he said.
"Today, you shall go through various training drills to check your physical fitness and majority of you will be eliminated as we only need 33 players so do best, then tomorrow the remaining will partake in trial matches to show skills," he continued.
"You all shall be divided into four groups, about 25 in each group."
"When coach Emeka calls out your name you will join the first group then it continues like that for all four groups," he said."
"Now, once your name is called head to the tracks and wait for the whistle, ohh and best off luck."
And so it began, Vincent was in the third group while waiting various results where generated. The first so far had a record of 13.2 secs in 100m dash . When it was his turn he topped the record with 12.4 secs which drew quite some attention from the scouts. At the end off the 100m dash, he got 3rd overall but during the 6 km run on the tracks he got 1st overall with some gap from the others therefore his rank was 2nd position .
{I just have to do well in the match tomorrow, then my chances of moving to Europe and developing my career will increase }. He thought.
"Alright that's a wrap boys, the selected 25 should be here by 8:30am Sharp tomorrow ," he announced.
"Dismissed! "He declared.
