The group sat around the safe house's cramped dining table, staring at the black crystal Kael had placed in the center. Its surface pulsed faintly, a dark light that seemed to whisper secrets just out of reach.
Kenji, munching on a bag of chips, leaned closer. "So, do we just smash it? Or is this one of those cursed things that explodes into tentacles if you break it?"
Kael frowned, pushing his glasses up. "It's not cursed… but it is dangerous. This crystal is a link to the Shadow King's realm. If we study it carefully, we might be able to learn where his power is coming from."
Ryo crossed his arms, his gaze fixed on the crystal. "Then let's study it. The sooner we find out what we're up against, the better."
Sakura raised an eyebrow. "And by 'we,' you mean Kael, right? Unless you've suddenly developed an interest in ancient shadow magic."
Kenji snorted. "Yeah, Ryo's about as interested in magic as Pancake is in eating vegetables."
The tiny dragon, perched on Kenji's shoulder, let out a defiant chirp, clearly offended by the comparison.

An Unexpected Invitation
Before Kael could respond, there was a knock at the door. Everyone tensed, weapons instinctively within reach.
Ryo motioned for silence, then carefully approached the door. When he opened it, a cheerful voice greeted him.
"Delivery for Ryo Tanaka and company!"
Standing there was a young woman in a bright red courier uniform, holding a sealed scroll. Her friendly smile didn't quite match the tension in the room.
Sakura stepped forward cautiously. "Who sent this?"
The courier shrugged. "Dunno. It came through the usual channels. You're kind of famous now, you know."
Kenji smirked. "Famous? Don't sell me short. I'm a legend!"
Ignoring him, Ryo took the scroll and shut the door. He unrolled it carefully, revealing an elegant script that read:
"To the esteemed heroes,
If you wish to uncover the truth behind the Shadow King's return, come to the Enchanted Isles. A ship awaits you at the southern docks at sunrise. Bring the crystal. Time is of the essence.
—A Friend"
Kael frowned, his analytical mind already racing. "The Enchanted Isles? That's a place of myths and legends. Nobody's even sure if they're real."
Kenji grinned. "Which means it's the perfect place for an adventure!"
Sakura groaned. "Or a trap. Did you forget we're fighting shadow assassins and ancient evil?"
"Exactly!" Kenji said, pumping his fist. "What better way to spice things up?"

The Journey Begins
By dawn, the group stood at the southern docks, staring at the ship waiting for them. It was a sleek vessel, its sails shimmering with an otherworldly glow.
Kenji whistled. "Fancy. Do you think they have snacks on board?"
Sakura elbowed him. "Focus, Kenji."
A tall, enigmatic woman with silver hair and piercing green eyes approached them. She wore a long cloak embroidered with strange runes, and her presence commanded attention.
"Welcome," she said, her voice calm but firm. "I am Lyra, your guide to the Enchanted Isles."
Kenji raised a hand. "Quick question. Is there a dress code? Because I brought my lucky pajamas."
Lyra blinked, clearly unsure how to respond. Ryo sighed. "Ignore him. He's… unique."
Lyra nodded slowly, then gestured to the ship. "The journey will not be easy. The seas surrounding the Isles are treacherous, and the shadows will try to stop you at every turn. But if you succeed, you'll uncover secrets that could change everything."
Kael held up the crystal. "Does this have something to do with it?"
Lyra's expression darkened. "Yes. The crystal is both a key and a beacon. It will lead us to the Isles… but it will also attract danger."
Kenji grinned, twirling his Sacred Spatula. "Danger? That's my middle name!"
Sakura smirked. "I thought it was 'Annoying.'"

The First Attack
As the ship set sail, the group had little time to enjoy the serene waters. By midday, the sky darkened, and a chilling wind swept across the deck.
Kael's staff began to glow. "Something's coming."
Ryo unsheathed his katana, his eyes scanning the horizon. "Everyone, get ready."
The shadows came swiftly, rising from the water like twisted specters. They lashed out with tendrils of dark magic, aiming for the crystal in Kael's hands.
Kenji leapt forward, using his spatula to deflect one of the tendrils. "Not today, shadow noodles!"
Sakura dashed between the attacks, her daggers slicing through the shadowy forms. "These things just don't quit!"
Ryo unleashed a burst of energy from his katana, the light searing through the shadows. "Kael, can you do something about this?"
Kael muttered an incantation, creating a barrier of light around the group. "This will hold them off for now, but we need to act fast!"
Kenji, perched on the ship's railing, spotted a massive shadow forming in the distance. "Uh, guys? I think the boss just showed up."
A towering shadow creature emerged, its glowing red eyes fixed on the crystal. It let out a bone-chilling roar, shaking the entire ship.
"Great," Sakura muttered. "As if things weren't bad enough."
Ryo stepped forward, his katana glowing brighter. "Let's take it down. Together."
