"Selena," he whispered gently, attempting to approach me. However, Jason intervened, quickly positioning himself between us.


"Selena? Are you acquainted with this individual?" Jason inquired, eyeing Zane suspiciously.


Zane disregarded Jason, focusing on me with imploring eyes. "Selena, please, can we have a conversation?" he pleaded.


Jason stood protectively in front of me, awaiting my response.


I longed to never see Zane again or have any connection to him. Yet, I was all too familiar with Zane's tenacity, aware that he would continue pursuing me until he achieved his goal. I detested how well I knew him.


I exhaled deeply before nodding. "Yes, I'm familiar with him. This is Zane, my former partner," I explained.


Jason scrutinized Zane, then turned to me with raised eyebrows, silently seeking my approval to speak with Zane.


I glanced at Zane once more, and he looked at me hopefully. Irritated, I rolled my eyes but nodded to Jason.
