Suddenly, everyone's attention turned to me.
Unperturbed, I deliberately unwrapped a candy, relishing the crackling sound of the wrapper, and said without looking up, "We're all familiar faces here. No need for formalities."
I casually popped the sweet into my mouth, allowing its flavor to soothe my thoughts.
"Sugar helps me concentrate," I mused internally.
A small voice broke my reverie. "Auntie, is it tasty?"
Surprised, I glanced down to see a young girl beside me. Her cherubic face and delicate features were complemented by large, sparkling eyes that gazed at me with childlike wonder.
Without hesitation, I extended another candy to her. "Find out for yourself," I said gently.
"Gabriel, control your unruly child!" Amara suddenly yelled, her tone filled with anger. "What kind of event is this? Allowing a little menace to run free?"
Unruly child?
The phrase left me stunned.
