Chapter 6

The bridal entourage soon reached the hotel.

During a brief pause to touch up my cosmetics, I retrieved my mobile from my purse. As soon as I powered it on, a deluge of texts and unanswered calls flooded the display.

The majority were from Zachary: "Natalie, please answer your phone!"

"Natalie, I made a mistake. Come back, I beg you. Don't wed another!"

"I'm imploring you, return! I can't bear to lose you..."

There were numerous missed calls, but to my astonishment, Aria had also sent messages.

Unlike Zachary's desperate appeals, her texts were laced with scorn and taunting: "Natalie, today I'm marrying Zachary. He deliberately sent you away because he feared you'd disrupt things."

"If you have any dignity, you'll release him and stop being so clingy."

"The one who isn't cherished is the true interloper. Do you honestly believe Zachary hasn't ended things with you out of love? No, dear, he merely feels sorry for you."
