Chapter 5

Zachary's eyes widened in disbelief. His pulse quickened as he whispered to himself, "This can't be real."

"Natalie's supposed to be away on holiday—she can't possibly be here."

"I must be imagining things. I guess I miss her more than I thought."

Aria, seated next to him, appeared equally shocked. She gazed at me, her lips moving silently, unable to form words.

In contrast to their astonishment, I remained composed. My face was impassive, showing no emotion. I passed the flowers to Aria.

She snapped back to reality and tentatively accepted them, clumsily handing her own bouquet to me in exchange.

I gave her a smile and said, "Best wishes to you both."

The car window closed, and the vehicle started moving again.

The two wedding processions drove away in opposite directions, heading down separate paths—much like Zachary and I, destined to go our separate ways.

As the car pulled off, I thought I heard an anguished cry behind me.
