I gazed at Cole with a detached expression, surrounded by onlookers, a glimmer of mockery in my eyes.
Winona reached her breaking point.
She gestured towards me and screamed at the creditors, "Stella orchestrated all of this. Why are you demanding payment from us!"
Her shrill voice caught everyone's attention, and all eyes turned to me. I calmly rose to my feet.
Cole, who had been visibly frustrated, suddenly glanced at my midsection.
He seemed to regain some assurance. "Stella, wasn't this our arrangement? We were just supposed to go through the motions with Winona. Why are you being so harsh? Pay up quickly, or you can forget about marrying me later!"
I gave him a wry smile and shook my head, chuckling as I replied, "Cole, how can you be so brazen? You're nothing but damaged goods! Do you honestly believe I care about you?"
