Chapter 5

At the entrance stood my aging professor, his locks now a snowy white. His spouse followed, whom I hadn't encountered in ages.

Upon seeing the rough, irregular sutures on my abdomen, they both began weeping uncontrollably.

"Mia, you've endured such hardship."

I longed to lift my hand to dry their tears, but it was futile. My entire frame ached so intensely that I couldn't summon the energy to budge.

Having lost both parents early in life, my professor had been my guardian since I first arrived at the university. His wife also cared for me as her own, always ensuring I received the choicest meals.

I had come to view them as surrogate parents. Witnessing their distress over my condition broke my heart into fragments.

The nurses scowled, their voices stern as they pushed my professor away. "Who's this elderly gentleman? Leave immediately!"

"Can you handle the repercussions if you delay the patient's operation?"

My professor's temper flared instantly.

"Do you know who I am?"
