Chapter 10

The next instance I encountered Ethan Williams, I was resting in a hospital room.

I had fainted outside a supermarket when the discomfort in my abdomen became intolerable. Before I could even take my medicine, I lost consciousness, and a compassionate stranger brought me here.

"Zoe, you're conscious?!"

Ethan's anxious face appeared as I opened my eyes drowsily. His worry seemed unfamiliar to me now.

"What brings you here?" I inquired, my voice raspy.

"I'm your spouse," he answered, his tone defensive, almost offended. "Naturally, the medical center contacted me first."

I exhaled softly and asked, "Have you submitted the divorce documents yet?"

His posture tensed, and for a moment, he remained silent. Then, after what seemed like forever, he finally spoke.
