Ch 217 : Family

Outside Amegakure, a special group arrived.

"Guests from Konoha, huh?"

The gatekeeping ninja of Amegakure noticed the visitors and warmly greeted them.

The leader of the group handed over a document.

"Hello, I am Hayate Shirakumo, a Jonin from Konoha, responsible for leading the Genin of our village for this Chunin Exam."

The Ame ninja reviewed the document and smiled. "Thank you for traveling such a long way. Please come in; we've already prepared lodgings for you."

Following behind Shirakumo Hayate were dozens of young Genin, mostly in their teens, all from Konoha.

Accompanying them were several Chunin as escorts.

Among the crowd, a pair of curious eyes surveyed the surroundings.

Sakurada Shinako asked, "Isn't Amegakure supposed to have constant rain? Why is it sunny?"

Itachi, standing beside her, replied, "Maybe they're controlling it with ninjutsu."

Their purpose for coming here was to participate in the first and second stages of the Chunin Exams.

This joint Chunin Exam was being co-hosted by Konoha and Amegakure.

The overall process required examinees from various villages to gather first in Amegakure for the initial exam.

Those who passed would proceed to the second stage — a marathon from Amegakure to Konoha.

Of course, the exam contents had not been disclosed yet, so the examinees were unaware.

Many were puzzled about why the exam location was in Amegakure.

The Ame ninjas were extremely hospitable toward the Konoha visitors, to the point that Shirakumo Hayate found it a bit overwhelming.

Their gazes toward him were as if they had just seen a long-lost parent.

Before accepting this mission, he had heard from colleagues that Konoha and Amegakure were currently in a "honeymoon" phase.

Therefore, anyone visiting Amegakure was likely to receive warm hospitality.

The words of their village companions were not false.

The accommodations prepared for Konoha were far more luxurious than those for other villages, and the thoughtful provisions were exceptionally abundant, making the children exclaim about Amegakure's generosity.

The architecture of the entire Amegakure was quite unique, with multi-level streets and buildings, countless towering structures, and an intricate network of giant drainage pipes.

If these outsiders wanted to explore the village, they would undoubtedly get lost.

Fortunately, Amegakure had made thorough preparations.

At intervals of a hundred meters along the streets, signposts had been erected, indicating the locations of guest accommodations for each village and various landmark buildings.

The streets were bustling with vendors and stalls.

Amegakure typically did not have so many merchants, but Yahiko had invited traders from nearby towns to set up shop during this period.

It was clear that Amegakure valued this opportunity greatly, striving to showcase the village's charm.

Although the final stage of the Chunin Exams would be the grand gathering of wealthy merchants and royal nobles, this opportunity was already significant for Amegakure, all thanks to Konoha's generosity.

The Konoha group had arrived early and spent an enjoyable day exploring and having fun in Amegakure.

On the day the exam was set to begin, an Amegakure ninja arrived at Konoha's guest accommodations.

He was a friendly-looking young man with a ponytail, a refined and elegant appearance, and a pleasant demeanor.

With a warm smile, he said, "Greetings to everyone from Konoha. My name is Hakuryu, and I'll be leading you to the exam venue."

In the crowd, Shinako whispered to her companions, "This guy is really handsome."

Itachi and Kabuto were used to her antics by now.

Shinako often swooned over good-looking men and especially admired Lord Hyuga Hakumen, constantly pestering Kiyomi-sensei for a chance to meet him.

But admittedly, Hakuryu did have striking features and seemed to be the type who got along well with people.

As they followed Hakuryu toward the exam site, they suddenly encountered a commotion.

A group of people was chasing after a figure with white hair, shouting as they ran.

"Scumbag! Stop right there!"

"Catch that peeping tom!"

"That damn pervert! Stand still!"

As the white-haired man passed by the Konoha group, he paused for a few seconds, scanning them with his gaze before offering a casual smile. "Yo, from Konoha, huh?"

It was as if he was greeting them.

Some recognized who he was, while others looked puzzled.

A few even wanted to step forward and act heroically to help catch the pervert, but thankfully their companions held them back.

At the front of the group, Hakuryu spoke helplessly, "Lord Jiraiya, Lord Yahiko has instructed you to behave yourself for the next couple of days."

Jiraiya laughed awkwardly, "It's a misunderstanding! A misunderstanding! I was just gathering material! They misunderstood me!"

As he spoke, he noticed the group of pursuers catching up, prompting him to flee in a panic.

"I'll be off then. See you later, Hakuryu. Keep this a secret for me, alright?"

The Konoha group murmured among themselves.

"That was Lord Jiraiya..."

"Why is Lord Jiraiya in Amegakure?"

"Lord Jiraiya actually enjoys peeping?"

Hakuryu turned and smiled at them, explaining, "Our leader, Lord Yahiko, is one of Lord Jiraiya's disciples."

This revelation surprised many, including Itachi and Kabuto.

Hearing that the leader of Amegakure was a disciple of one of Konoha's legendary Sannin made the Konoha group feel even more friendly toward the village.

"Let's keep moving," Hakuryu said, guiding them forward.

.......

While the Chunin Exams were underway outside the village, some events unfolded within Konohagakure as well.

The Uchiha clan's relocation had been completed, and Mikoto, along with Itachi, had moved to a residence next door to the Hokage's estate.

Since becoming Hokage, Makoto had moved his residence out of the Hyuga clan compound, though it remained nearby.

The Hokage's estate was a separate, semi-traditional courtyard-style house.

Another significant matter had also taken place.

Kushina ultimately couldn't defy Makoto's wishes and chose to compromise, moving into his home.

The sudden arrival of a new woman in the household left everyone, except Ayari, too cautious to say much.

Even Ayano and Natsu kept their opinions to themselves.

Makoto instructed Ayano to prepare another side room for Kushina.

When Kushina met Ayari again, she felt immensely awkward.

Yet Ayari's attitude had improved significantly.

She smiled at Kushina and said, "We're family now. Please get along well with everyone."

Family...

Those words grated on Kushina's ears.

She had no desire to become family with Makoto.

She didn't even want to spend a second longer with him.

But things rarely went as she wished—everything she didn't want came crashing down upon her.

Now that she had moved in, all she could do was take it one step at a time and go with the flow.

She knew Ayano and Natsu, but they weren't particularly close.

Thinking about living with them day in and day out, she couldn't help but wonder what they thought of her...

What would outsiders think of her—a stranger who moved into the Hokage's home?

Kushina suddenly remembered that not many people knew about her relocation.

For instance, Rin.

She wondered whether Rin would overthink things if she found out.
