Another imperial edict?.

 Chapter 20: Another imperial edict?

Princess Hua was still asleep, her hand resting gently on her husband Wang Wei's face, her head nestled against his chest. Wang Wei tried to shift her off him, but she refused to budge, her weight pressing down on him in a way that was becoming increasingly uncomfortable. The arrow wound on his side throbbed painfully, exacerbated by her position.

"Princess," came a soft knock at the door. Chen Xui's voice broke through the tranquility of the moment. The sound startled Princess Hua awake, and she shot up, her eyes wide with alarm.

"Are you okay?" she asked, noticing the bloodstain on Wang Wei's clothing.

"What?" he replied, confusion etched on his face.

"That," she pointed at the stain, her voice laced with concern.

Wang Wei glanced down at his own clothes, trying to turn away to hide the evidence of his injury. "What happened to you there?" Princess Hua pressed, her worry deepening.

"Your hairpin on your head injured me there overnight," Wang Wei lied, forcing a smile to mask the pain.

"I'm sorry," Princess Hua said, her brow furrowing as she noticed more blood on the back of his clothes. "And there too?"

"What?" Wang Wei feigned ignorance.

"Your back is stained with blood, and the bed cover is stained with blood. Is it my hairpin?" she asked, her voice rising in alarm.

"Oh, that. I fell yesterday when I was trying to wheel myself here. I might have gotten injured," he lied again, hoping to deflect her concern.

"Let me help you check it," Princess Hua insisted, reaching for his clothing.

"Don't worry," Wang Wei said quickly, but as she began to pull at his cloth, he struggled, both of them tugging at the fabric.

"Your Highness," Chen Xui called again, her voice urgent.

"Your Highness! Imperial Edict!" he announced as Princess Hua finally dressed, her curiosity piqued. She and Wang Wei made their way to the main hall, where the Wang family members were already gathered, kneeling in anticipation.

"The princess fell into the general pond and lost the emperor's grandchild. The general is given three days to find out who the culprit is," the eunuch proclaimed, handing the edict to General Wang before departing.

In a private room, Mr. Wang sat with Haoyu and Madam Feng.

"Why does Princess Hua losing the baby have to do with us? That is Wei's fault. He is just so stubborn," Madam Feng lamented.

"Didn't they say the emperor doesn't care about Princess Hua? How come he cares about her unborn child?" Haoyu questioned, his brow furrowed in confusion.

General Wang paced the room, unable to sit still.

"Honey, sit down," Madam Feng urged, moving closer to him.

"Princess, isn't this pregnancy situation going to cause trouble for the Wangs?" Chen Xui asked, concern evident in her tone.

"I don't even know what to do," Princess Hua admitted, her voice trembling.

"I don't know why Wei spoiled my plan. The physician should have said that," she added, frustration creeping into her words.

Meanwhile, in the library, Wang Wei sat in silence, Bao standing nearby, his expression tense.

"Young master, why isn't the bleeding stopping?" Bao asked, worry etched on his face.

"Because I keep getting hurt there again and again," Wang Wei replied, his voice low.

"Young master, our spy has already found out who pushed Princess Hua. He is also the assassin from last night," Bao informed him.

"Has she found his hideout?" Wang Wei asked, his interest piqued. Just then, a maid entered, holding a food box intricately carved from wood. Bao quickly closed the door behind her.

"Have you found out who the assassin was?" Wang Wei inquired, his heart racing.

"Yes, young master, but I don't know who sent him. However, I have discovered his hideout," the maid said, her voice steady despite the gravity of the situation.

"Where is that?" Wang Wei pressed, his mind racing with possibilities.
