Chapter 21: Get the Masking Knight
"Where is that?" Wang Wei asked.
"The old Prime Minister's store," the maid replied.
"Wang Wei!" Princess Hua shouted.
"You can go," Wang Wei said as the maid opened the door and left. Then Princess Hua stepped inside.
"Wang Wei, I brought this medicine bottle. It is very effective and will cure your injury," Princess Hua said, moving closer to help him.
"Thank you, Princess. Bao will help with that," Wang Wei said, glancing at Bao to say something.
"Yes, Your Highness, I will assist the young master with that," Bao confirmed.
"Humph," Princess Hua huffed as she turned to leave.
"That was close," Wang Wei said, breathing heavily. "Bao, help me change. We have to go visit the culprit this afternoon."
---
Back at the palace, the eunuch reported, "Your Highness, I heard the Masking Knight was the one who handed over the Prime Minister's son to the soldiers. Who knew the Prime Minister's son is the head of the bandits?"
"Who is the Masking Knight? He refuses to show his face," the Emperor replied.
"Your Majesty, I heard he is a monster. That's why he doesn't operate in the afternoon, and I heard no one has seen his face," the eunuch explained.
"What is—" the Emperor began, but was interrupted by the sounds of Li Chen and Bao arguing.
"Go and check who those are," the Emperor commanded. The eunuch rushed out and soon returned, reporting, "I wish to see the Emperor, and Commander Chen is stopping me," Wang Wei said, accompanied by a man who was bleeding from his fingers.
"Who is this?" the eunuch asked.
"This is the culprit who pushed Princess Hua," Wang Wei stated. The eunuch rushed back in.
"Your Majesty, Wang Wei seeks your audience. He has brought the culprit of the incident," the eunuch announced.
"Let him in," the Emperor commanded.
"Long live Your Majesty. I have brought the culprit behind the princess's incident," Wang Wei declared.
"Are you the one?" the Emperor asked the man, who was shivering and suffering from the bleeding of his cut fingers. The man refused to answer.
"Are you the one?" the Emperor asked again, his voice firm. The man laughed.
"I hate the princess, and I wanted to kill her. Is there something wrong with that?" he laughed again before collapsing. Bao checked his pulse.
"He is dead," Bao said.
The Emperor's expression turned grim. "Dispose of it." The court guards entered to remove the body.
"I never knew you were this amazing. I gave your father three days to find the culprit, and you found him the same day," the Emperor remarked.
"Your Majesty, I am not worthy of that. On my way out, the Masking Knight brought him," Wang Wei said.
"The Masking Knight? Did you see him?" the Emperor asked, his voice laced with concern.
"No, Your Majesty, he didn't show his face," Wang Wei replied.
"Tell Hua tomorrow is my birthday. They will send the birthday banquet invitation to her," the Emperor instructed, giving Wang Wei a hand signal to leave.
"Who is this Masking Knight?" the Emperor pondered aloud.
"Could it be him?" the eunuch suggested.
"Since the Masking Knight is said not to operate in the afternoon, how could he have seen him during the day?" the eunuch added.
"He can never be him; he is just the weak son of Wang," the Emperor dismissed.
"Young master, why is the Emperor concerned with the Masking Knight?" Bao asked.
"Masking Knight?" Wang Wei echoed.
