Rustle!
The low yet audible sound of the tall grass surrounding him rustle. He could hear it very well.
These sounds weren't produced by his footsteps since he was still standing.
These sounds weren't made by the huge monster, and it's lackey since they were both still looking at him from afar, just waiting for him to mess up.
So, by recalling his memory, he figured it came from the only things other than him that entered the tall grass.
Yohan: Shit!
Earlier on, he had been chased by what appeared to be wolves. However, by using the one standing afar as reference, he could say with certainty that these things were too... hideous to be considered wolves.
They weren't wolves at all.
These things that tried to harm approached him with the intent to harm him further.
No, rather...
Yohan: I'm dead meat!
These things, the bug that bit him earlier ago, the huge monster and its lackey, along with the three who were supposedly hidden in the tall grass. They all targeted him. They all wanted to kill him.
These things weren't bugs, canines, felines, or any sort of animal known to humankind. No...
They were monsters.
They all aimed for Yohans life. He had done nothing worth being killed over. He simply existed, and yet, they all wanted to kill him.
Killing a human, they had no reason to. Except for the fact that they were monsters.
A fact Yohan wasn't surprised, but a fact that he hated. If he stagnated for even a second, he would be dead.
That's what he believed, just by looking at the situation he was in.
He looked at his surroundings, and he noticed the hidden monsters where approaching him from the left side of the area and the right.
If he ran to the left, one would pursue him in that direction. If he ran to the right, another one would pursue him in that direction. If he ran straight ahead in between them, he would easily be pincered. If he ran back to where he came from, then he would simply be chomped on by that huge monster again. If he climbed a tree, then he would simply be stuck there, unable to move, fulfilling the huge monsters wishes.
In reality, he had nowhere to go. His feet were injured, so he was sure that they would somehow catch him no matter how fast he ran. He had a missing arm, so he knew that he couldn't take them head-on, no matter how much strength he put into them.
Yohan: I'm outta options.
Accompanied by his tears, he said those depressing words with complete certainty. Seemingly foreshadowing an unfortunate end. Did he really have no other options?
No. Although it was only one, it was better than having none.
Yohan: To live...
One option.
Yohan: Can't I just live!
He wanted to live right now. He was facing an unbearable amount of pain, unable to really focus, but regardless of how hazed his mind was by the pain.
The pain of injuries
The pain of despair
The pain of fear.
One thing was clear in his mind.
Yohan: I want to live!
He wanted to live. That's what he could think of.
In this situation where all these monsters were aiming for his life...
Seeing
Feeling
Hearing
Breathing
Eating
Surviving
Staying alive was his only choice. No, that's all he wanted to choose!
Where he was, he didn't know. How he ended up here, he didn't know.
What he did know was that this place was super unwelcoming, and he experienced it first-hand.
Heheh, get it?
So, just as any reasonable would feel, he didn't want to be here. So all that meant was that he had to run. Run away from all this danger. Run away from the tall grass.
And so, in pursuit of that goal, he picked up his two feet, ignored the huge gash on one of his legs, and dashed towards the light.
There was blood flying the air, being tossed away by the wind as it dripped from his arm, or rather, what was left of it. But he didn't care.
A trail of blood on the tall grass was left on the tall grass, formed by Yohans foot, which was dyed in red.
You didn't need to follow the whole trail to know where it was headed.
If you looked ahead, you would see the light at the end of the tall grass.
That's where Yohan headed to. Even though he was headed in the direction of those 'wolves'.
Yohan knew full well that heading into that direction was suicide.
Yohan: But it's only suicide if I'm dead.
Why had the monster lackey stood still despite the call?
Why were the others still hiding in the tall grass?
Why had they taken him head-on?
Why were there only two? Wasn't there a third one?
Why had they still remained?
These thoughts were running through his head at mach 10. He needed to cycle through them to figure out a plan to jump through these obstacles in front of him.
With these 'wolves' closer than ever, he had only a few seconds to think of something, or else he'd have no brain to think with at all.
These 'wolves' that were sneaky finally managed to get to him, they seemed unstoppable. Except, something sparked in his mind. A keyword popped up in his head, giving him the answer.
Yohan: Sneak... up!
In that moment, Yohan flashed a grin from ear to ear. It was almost as if he managed to deceive the wolf who were so covert and deceptive in their own way.
Yohan: Sneak...
The excited Yohan momentarily put his running to a halt by planting his right foot far in front of him. He followed that action by twisting his body backward, with his grip on the stick reverse, placing the snapped-off part at the end.
Yohan: UP!
Yohan shouted out of those words with a hint of ecstacy in his eyes. He correlated those words to the wolves.
That was his answer.
These wolves were, in fact, sneaky. They had remained hidden in the tall grass, even when they tried to attack him. They kept their identity hidden at all times.
The only exception was the monster lackey, that remained at its masters side.
However, these wolves weren't any bit of an exception. They still hid in the tall grass, ready to attack him.
So, with that logic, why would they approach him head-on?
Answer was, they wouldn't.
If they were truly trying to attack him, they wouldn't charge straight into the direction where his visage could catch more than a glimpse of their identity.
If they were attacking him, they wouldn't do it head on.
To Yohan, that meant...
Yohan: Sneak... UP!
A sneak attack! Thats what it was.
With his stick in his right hand, he was now facing the direction where his back was originally facing. He then followed that with him thrusting his stick.
He successfully did so, and managed to thrust it into the 'wolf' that had its jaw wide open and tried to attack him mid-air.
That was bad-luck for the 'wolf' and now it was thrusted into a terrible reality.
The stick that Yohan held had pierced its body by entering its mouth that was wide open. Unfortunately, the 'wolf' was in mid-air, and by meer coincidence, the stick lined up with its airborne body, allowing the stick to intrude further into its body.
Past the jaw.
Through the esophagus.
Obstructing the lungs
Deep into its stomach.
And piercing through it, bursting its intestinal tract.
That's how far that stick managed to pierce the 'wolf'
Not a sword... not a spear... but a stick.
And all that was because of Yohans split second plan.
Yohan: Sneak... up... better!
These were the last words by the wolf that was put on the verge of the death by one strike.
That stick, which impaled the wolf like skewered meat, was still in Yohans possession. With that, it was still in the air, with the exception being that it was now being held by the person it failed to kill.
His hand was deep into its mouth, however, the wolf was in too much pain to close its mouth.
A terrible fate. And unfortunately that wasn't the end of Yohans plan.
Yohan: Sneak...
It seemed that the taunting words weren't limited to that one 'wolf'.
Yohan then twisted his body to the direction his back was now facing again, and there they were...
Two more 'wolves' in mid-air, aiming at Yohans head. Unfortunately...
Yohan: ...up BETTER!
Yohan had seen through their attack and he used the now agonizing wolf as a weapon and swung it at the two wolves at once. In the end, the swing was so strong that the wolves flew into the direction of a tree, along with the agonizing wolf, who was freed from Yohans grasp by the force of his swing.
All three of them collided into a tree, and sustained some considerable damage, but it didn't compare to the pain of the agonizing wolf.
That stick... although it wasn't in Yohans hand anymore, it was still inside the wolf, causing the worst pain.
When Yohan had thrusted it, the stick perfectly aligned with its body piercing through several layers of its insides.
Now, that stick was obstructing the wolf's bodily functions. It couldn't even bend it's neck. It couldn't even whimper.
It was suffering, that much was clear, but it couldn't do anything about it.
It was bleeding internally. It's organs were busted up from the lungs down to its intestinal tract. The damage was so bad that the bleeding overflowed out of its mouth. It couldn't do anything, and it's struggling only perpetuate the pain further.
A "wolf" that was absolutely hideous, died an ever more hideous death. In its pain of death, it's friends couldn't even do anything since they were knocked out.
And that stick, it was too deep inside it to be pulled out.
No one could do anything about its death.
And the one at fault was...
Yohan: I did it-- Tch!
That boy, Yohan. He turned a meer stick into a lethal weapon. A feat that was accomplished in a few seconds. How come?
Well, to put it in simple terms, the wolves simply fell into a rabbit hole they set up themselves.
They had a covert nature. That's why Yohan knew that it would attack him from behind.
That's why Yohan knew that those two that approached him were merely a decoy.
He knew they would attack him if he turned his back towards them. He wanted them to.
In the end, he countered the wolf that had snuck up on him and forced the other wolves to help him defeat them.
Two birds with one stone.
Yohan: Or rather, three wolves with one stick.
That had a better ring to it.
He couldn't believe it, but now that meant one thing.
He was alive... he was gonna live.
The obstacle blocking the light was finally taken care of. Now, he could run towards the light, escaping this hellish situation.
And so, Yohan picked up his two feet, and ran excitedly towards the light.
Yohan: To think that stick actually had a purpose... Heheh!
Success!
