Success!
That one word rang through his mind as he gazed upon his achievement before he continued his sprint towards the light
The scent of iron filled the air, and the sounds of grass being stepped on reverberate through his ears. He knew that this was a bloody forest and that he was stuck in a hidden forest at that.
Pant... Pant... Pant...
He felt... accomplished.
He hadn't escaped yet, yet he felt that way.
Even though he had been wounded and had lost his arm, he felt accomplished.
He had managed to run away from imminent death through voicing out his desire to live and, following that, managed to counterattack in one strike against the three wolves that surrounded him.
Even though he was an adventurer who followed his fathers footsteps and achieved many feats, he was truly surprised by what he had done.
So, of course, he felt accomplished.
Yohan: I'm alive¿
He had to take on three wolves by himself. Wolves, which were sneaky by definition and had been planning to outwit him through a few methods.
When two of the wolves approached him, there was another wolf that snuck up on him. If he, by some chance, saw through that and turned to stop the wolf, the other two were more than ready to finish the job. It seemed utterly hopeless. A situation where any options he could've acted out on were all bad choices.
However...
Yohan: I'm alive.
A hopeless situation was somehow overturned in one fell swoop. That was luck by definition. He had to use up every braincell he had in order to achieve his goal of surviving that hopeless situation.
Yohan: Phew.
Though, it was only possible because he used their nature's against them. The wolves are sneaky nature. They refused to show their faces and instead hid themselves in the tall grass even when attacking their prey.
A nature of theirs which they would never change. Why?
Maybe it was because they were animals. It was a nature instilled into them from birth. It was in their DNA. Like how a lion would rather starve if it were stuck in a grassland that had no prey in sight than to eat grass. It was in their nature, after all.
Just like how these wolves refused to show themselves. They had a sneaky nature from birth. That's how animals operated, or at least, that's what Yohan thought of that.
Maybe it was because he had dealt with many different types of animals in the past. He understood how they attacked or what provoked them to attack in the first place. That's what had allowed him to live in some of his more... wild adventures.
He continued to pursue the light at the end of the tall grass, but he took a glance in the direction where he had run away from.
Then... a thought ran through his head as he saw something unbelievable.
Yohan: Sure, animals that act on their nature and refuse to do otherwise exist...
... but don't exceptions exist as well?
*****
Exceptions. That's what Yohan thought.
He had remembered that among those sneaky wolves, there was a singular wolf that wasn't afraid to reveal its unfortunate appearance.
An exception. Those do exist.
Even though it seemed that being sneaky and hiding in the tall grass was in its nature, it decided that.
Exceptions weren't a common occurrence and were in terms of any occurrence in life. Yet, there was one standing where he was looking.
There it was, that exception. The brave wolf, which stood alongside its ma-
Yohan: Hehhhhhh!
Where was its master. It was supposed to be standing next to the wolf. That was something Yohan figured out through tremendous effort.
Ueeeuueuereugh
If he heard that sound, then it was assumed that the wolf's master, the huge monster, was asking him for its permission to eat him.
If he stood still, that was akin to him saying yes, but if he ran from it, then he would practically be saying no.
Reiiiigiigigiigih
If he heard that sound, then it meant that the monster called its lackeys, the wolves, to bring its prey to it.
From those actions it took, Yohan had an idea of its nature.
One that never works for its food. It is gentle in pursuit of its food and assumes its prey will submit to it. If it's prey rebels, it simply makes its lackey bring the food to it. The makings of an arrogant king, or rather a lazy one. One that would chase after its prey. That's what Yohan believed.
However, it was a could thing he never voiced that belief because if he did...
Graaaaaaawrh!
... He would have to explain why a huge white-haired monster was running at the speed of a gallant horse, heaving through the grass and trees...
... Following the trail of blood that led to him.
