Dashing towards the light

That white monster. The one that took Yohans arm. The leader of those wolves. That despicable thing--

Graaaaaaaawrh

A completely unfamiliar sound emerged from the mouth of that monster. It sounded that cry out as it ran towards Yohan.

Something was more peculiar than that sound, rather...

Yohan: Why the fuck is it chasing me?

As the white monster was approaching Yohan, the sound of its footsteps drowned out the sound of the grass that rustled under its feet. It shook the earth with each step it took. It would knock down the trees in its way. It looked like an unstoppable force...

And all Yohan could do was continue to run.

Yohan: Shit! What do I do?

Maybe he should've took a detour, but that wouldve meant remaining in the tall grass, or just continued to run straight ahead, but then again, the monster was very fast and could've reached him.

Yohan: Urgh! Then again, the light's starting to feel further and further away anyway.

And so, with his mind set, he changed course and went to the left. He almost slipped as he made the turn, but nevertheless, he continued to run. He could only hope that the monster didn't change course either.

Graaaaaaawrh!

Looking at the source of the sound, he felt a sense of relief when he saw that his hopes came to a fruition.

Creak!

However, that didn't mean he was in the clear at all.

Creak!

Not one bit.

Creak!

Yohan: Ah shit!

As he looked at the monster, he noticed that it didn't move towards him at all, which would've been lucky were it not for what it was doing then.

Creak! Snap!

Then... following that was the sound of something falling. When he took a closer look, he noticed that in front of the monster was a fallen tree. The monster knocked it over, but what for?

Then as he looked closer at the fallen tree, he noticed another, and another, and another...

And soon enough, he noticed a tree about to fall down.

Yohan: Tch! Dirty bastard!

He had immediately realized the cunning of the damned monster. He saw with his own eyes the tree that tree which was still tilted fall down, and others started falling like dominoes. This occured in the direction that Yohan was headed towards. This meant that the cunning monster used the environment to his advantage, and tried to block Yohans path.

It had succeeded in doing so, and now Yohan was forced to run in the direction of the light, parallel to the falling trees. This was extremely clever of the monster, that was what Yohan couldn't deny.

So he ran, pursuing the light and the trees that were falling like trees, that's when he noticed it.

Another tree.

It was much taller than the other trees. He quickly thought to climb it, but unfortunately as of yet he couldn't reach it.

After all, it was about a couple of trees away, possibly 5 to 10 trees away, but Yohan couldn't care to count. Though, that wasn't his only problem.

Creak!

The trees still continued to knock each other down like dominoes, and at the rate things were going, it seemed that tree would get knocked down.

Yohan: Tch! Not an option anymore.

He unfortunately had to continue running straight for the light. As nice as that seemed, he really needed to find a way other than that, since that was a trap forced onto him by the monster.

After all, it was only a matter of time until the monster catched up to him as they both ran in that direction.

He couldn't even think of jumping over onto the other side of the trees. Realistically, he could use the fallen trees as a boundary between him and the monster. Though, considering that it was the strength of that monster, which caused all those trees to fall, it seemed that those trees wouldn't be enough to stop the monster from targeting him.

There was also the monsters speed to consider. Even if the trees could be used as a boundary, the monster could simply run ahead of the falling trees and cross over, leaving Yohan with nowhere to run to.

A perilous disaster, one that left him on the fence over what to do. Cross over or continue running? What would he chose?

He was stuck on the fence about the choice he was faced with. He was running out of time as the trees approached the taller tree, and the fact that he was catching up to the falling trees didn't change anything.

He really didn't know what to do. He was truly on the fence over his choices.

Yohan: Then I should stay on the fence.

Flash!

That's how quick the look on his face when from panicked to even more panicked, or rather, he wasn't super panicked, but he looked nervous, as if he were about to do something crazy.

Creak!

There he was, side to side with a tree that tilted at a 45° angle, and was going to tilt even further.

Creak!

Did it truly matter? Did it really mean anything that the tree was tilted instead of standing upright.

Yohan asked himself those questions as he put his left food on the surface of that very tilted tree, and then his right foot.

And soon enough, he was running up the tree. No... he was running along the tree. To call it parkour was an understatement.

*****

He was an adventurer, therefore, it was assumed that it's wasn't strange for him to be able to do such a thing. Even the earlier occurrence when he took down all three of those wolves in one fell swoop should've been considered a far from unusual occurrence. Though, it makes one wonder what adventures he took part in to be able to achieve such feats.

*****

He reached the top of the tree. No... the end of it and then made his way onto the next tree with the force of the fallen tree and his descent forcing it to tip further. Without pause, he ran up on the tree like he did with the previous one. Then, the next one, and the one afterwards.

Then..

Creak!

He unfortunately jumped too early and ended up placing his feet on a completely upright tree. This in turn almost made him slip downwards, but then.

Yohan: Woah! Got it. Phew...

He had managed to grab onto one of the branches on that tree and tried to pull himself upwards. Somehow, one of his feet managed to find a foothold to push himself upward even further. Then, just on time

Thud!

The tree behind him fell on the tree he was hanging onto, and when the force of that tree tilted the one he was on, he became able to continue his climb. As he continued to move further up the tree, his weight would tilt it even more, and when he reached the end, he was standing up straight, moving forward instead of upward. Then he looked at the tree beyond the one he needed to climb.

As he ran across the tree, he looked in awe against the tall tree. It was indeed tall, and very much so. It was the height of two trees combined. This was the last tree he needed to climb, but how was he gonna do it? He felt that more force needed to be applied in order to run on its surface.

Graaawrh!

There was the monster who was still in pursuit of Yohan, picking up speed. It had most likely anticipated where Yohan would be standing if he successfully landed safely into the clutches of the tree.

And so...

Graaawrh

... With all its might, it dashed for the tree, hoping to catch Yohan in the midst of his attempt to land on the tree and devastate his insides, however...

Yohan: Doshaaan!

...He emerged from the edge of a tree, and instead of the tall tree, he landed on the snout of the monster. With perfect timing nonetheless.

Yohan: Ah, sorry. Didn't see you there.

And with that, he took a step back and then, from his position of putting his feet atop the eyes of the monsters, and leapt onto the tall tree.

Graaaaaaaaawrh

The monster, despite having it's eyes stepped on, still continued to ram into the tree, resulting in it snapping very hard.

That meant that the tree was going to fall at a fast rate, which was bad for Yohan.

That meant that he needed to reach the top of the tree super fast, and from there on...

Step by step, he brought himself closer to the top of the tree. He never understood how he was able to do it, but he somehow to dash through the bushy and tall tree.

When he saw bushes that were in the way, he used his only hand to knock all the bushes out of his way. When it seemed like he would slip, he simply changed the positioning of his feet and grabbed onto a branch to ensure he didn't fall. Step by step, he persisted against the gravity that tried to bring him back to the earth.

And best believe he came out on top.

*****

Yohan: Finally!

He reached out to the top of the tilting tree and then... he took a leap of faith.

*****

He didn't know why he did that in the first place. Maybe it was a matter of his instincts taking over. That really makes you wonder what adventures he went through to have such a wild instincts

*****

Letting go of the tree, letting go of the monster from before, he jumped towards the direction of the light. This was done by a stroke of luck, but...

Yohan: The light!

Whilw in mid-air, he brushed past a few of the trees, he had finally reached his goal destination. This was the place that he went through a rollercoaster of hope and despair to reach. The end of the tall grass he was trapped in. The acclaimed safe haven. The...

Yohan:... Huh?

He had reached the area where the light resided, thinking he'd be in a safe place to land on, only to be given a shitty surprise.

What Yohan could see, in this brighter environment, wasn't an environment at all. Rather, he was about to hit the edge, marking the end of the forest environment.

Yohan: This would make a great cliffhanger.
