Chapter 2

James interrupted her abruptly: "Let's focus on the good news – Lily's returning from the hospital. Why bring up that troublemaker now?"

The maid attempted to speak further, but William and Henry's stern looks quickly silenced her.

"That wretched girl must have been aware of the seafood allergy and intentionally prepared an entire seafood meal," William said, seething with anger.

"And here I thought she was finally accepting Lily. It turns out it was all calculated!" Henry chimed in, his voice filled with rage.

Lily adopted a scared demeanor and softly said:

"Big sister is being disciplined because of me. She's been isolated in that basement for days. What if she's resentful when she's released?"

James' face grew stern. "Don't fret, Lily. We've been too soft on her before. She's never faced real punishment. This lesson will ensure she never mistreats you again."

As he spoke, he instinctively checked his phone, refreshing their conversation history. However, their last exchange remained from three days prior. During that time, I hadn't sent a single message or attempted any calls. James' eyes flashed with fury.

"That ungrateful child! Days have passed, and she hasn't even inquired about Lily's condition!"

Just then, Lily deliberately grabbed James' hand and said with a quivering voice:

"I only wanted to spend time with big sister. I never intended to take anything from her."

James quickly set his phone aside and gently patted Lily's head. "Lily, you're so thoughtful. Unlike her – she's nothing but an ungrateful wretch."

William's eyes filled with cold contempt as he thought of me. "Indeed. She dares to harm family just for attention? Truly despicable!"

Henry nodded vigorously in agreement and scoffed, "Unless she's learned her lesson and is ready to beg Lily for forgiveness, I'll personally remove her from this house!"

I stood nearby, listening to my brothers' words, and could only laugh bitterly at the absurdity. But my spirit's presence went completely unnoticed by the living.
