Chapter 5

"Nolan, you embarrassed me today by hitting Kael in front of me."

"We're both at fault here. Just apologize to Kael and we can put this behind us."

"I've already given you an out. It's up to you whether you take it or not!"

After leaving Vivienne's place, she sent me several text messages in a row.

I was relieved that she didn't soften her tone.

Because the harsher her attitude, the clearer my mind became.

Otherwise, I was truly worried that when the child cried for his mother at night, I might change my mind again.

Later, I realized that Kael's appearance might not be such a bad thing for me after all.

Because only after going through the labor pains could I be reborn.

I didn't contact Vivienne again, but she could guess that I must have taken the child back to my parents' house.

A few days later, she came to my parents' house to find me.

From complaining to my parents, to making threats.

"Mom, Dad, you know your family's financial situation. For Nolan to buy a house and car in this city on his own, he'd need to struggle for at least thirty years. So you should talk some sense into him and tell him to come back with me."

"Vivienne, this is between us. Don't drag my parents into it."They're not just your parents, they're also my father-in-law and mother-in-law," Vivienne told me confidently. "Of course they're going to be involved in our business. So, if you won't come back with me, I'll just stay here."

She thought this would leave me with no options?

If she could get my parents to talk to me, I could just as easily get her parents to talk to her.

After all, when we first got married, her parents didn't approve of me. They were convinced I was just a gold-digging boy toy.

Especially over the past year or so when I've been idle at home, they've looked down on me even more.

They've even been secretly advising Vivienne to divorce me. I've overheard their conversations by chance.

So when I called them and said Vivienne was refusing to leave my place, begging me not to divorce her, they exploded with anger on the spot.

Mr. Langdon berated me loudly over the phone: "Nolan, without my daughter, could you be living the life you have now? You've got no skills and no money. It's only because my daughter's a fool that she ever looked at you!"

"My daughter's out there earning money to support the family, and you, a good-for-nothing boy toy, dare to mention divorce to her?"Remember, it's my girl who dumped you! Give the phone to Vivienne!"

Vivienne's parents reacted as if I'd stepped on their tails, then proceeded to scold Vivienne, until she finally had to leave my house reluctantly.

After she left, my parents tried to persuade me too. They said that in the past when we argued, Vivienne had never backed down.

This time, she must have truly realized her mistake and wanted me to give her another chance for the sake of our child.

To be honest, I was in a daze.

Because I really thought that when my wife heard me bring up divorce, she would accept it very calmly, so that no one would bother her and Kael anymore.

So a few days later, under the pretext of going back to get some things, I wanted to see how she had been living recently.

After all, we had lived together for five years. It's impossible to say there were no happy memories during this time of intimate companionship.

Returning to this house where we had lived for five years, I felt a wave of emotions.

I sat on the sofa and thought for a long time, wondering if I should wait for her to come home and have a good talk with her.

But soon, I gave up on this naive idea.

In the bathroom, I saw two toothbrushes.
