Melody hated being the center of gossip, so she was the first to head home.
Meanwhile, I was summoned to the boss's office.
After learning the truth, she looked at me with a hint of sympathy in her eyes. "You shouldn't be dealing with personal matters at work. But this isn't entirely your fault. Go home, and be more careful next time."
For a long time, I had been under Melody's emotional control, living a repressed life.
Hearing the boss's words, I suddenly felt a lump in my throat, almost on the verge of tears.
Outside, the rain was pouring, but my heart was surprisingly calm.
I thought I had made myself clear, so Melody wouldn't bother me anymore, right?
But when it was time to clock out, I still saw her waiting at the entrance.
Seeing me come out, she ran over in the rain.
"Get in the car, I'll drive you home!"
She was soaked to the bone, but I felt no pity for her.
I wasn't buying into her act of suffering.
"No thanks, I'm taking the bus," I said.
