Back to the tall building where the three unknown people were monitoring Theo's crash site, they were getting ready to turn for the night.
It was early but they needed to wake up at the daybreak if they ever wish to comeback home in a day. If they missed the sunshine, they would need to take shelter in another location which was bound to be filled with hidden dangers.
As they were about to sleep, they heard a terrible cry that shook them to their core. They looked at each other knowing what exactly made the noise!
" Fuck! Fuck! Don't tell me-" The second person who was always more proactive cursed loudly which was uncharacteristic but other two totally understood why they were acting this way.
" Don't panic. It doesn't appear to be near us. Maybe some other faction disturbed their hive, it's quite common since most know how large theor area of influence is." The first and most level headed one whispered. She couldn't be making the same mistake of making large noises at night.
" Let's go up and take a look. We might be able to see it." The third, a self proclaimed researcher was already standing on their feet while putting on the glasses.
They did just that and went back on the roof to get a better look. Even in darkness, they could hear the intensity of walker increase probably because of the terrible cry.
At this point, this particular cry was synonyms to death for those that lived to tell the tale. Zombies had a much more robust cycle when it came to evolution.
No one knew what causes it but they knew higher the evolution the weirder it's power would get not to mention the most faster and stronger it would become.
The cry was from a level three evolved walker but it was a threat that no human was capable of facing. One would either run or pray that the creature wouldn't find them.
There were few brave people that managed to take down few of them but the manpower and casualties were too much for them to bear.
It's not that they were made out of metal and were hard to kill but the real threat laid in it's ability to control low level zombies while amplifying their strength.
It was faster than any other zombie and could predict bullet path using it's foot soldiers to shield itself, yes, it was that intelligent.
Due to the lack of heavy explosives, one had to mow down a large number of zombies wasting time and resources before they would be able to target the level three creature.
It was said to first clear the surroundings so that the creature wouldn't be able to summon others and take it down by just ganging up on it but it was easier said than done!
" Wait! Give me the map!" The third person suddenly remembered something looking at the distance. She had a bad premonition like they missed some important detail and she was right.
They used the low intensity red light that didn't spread far to quickly scanned the map locating the place she was looking for. Their face paled when thinking about the possibility.
" What? What is it?" Other two knew seeing that paled face that something was very wrong.
" I don't think there would be any need for us to make the trip tomorrow. We might not be able to find anything, at least not anything alive."
" Why? You don't mean.." other two also looked at the area marked. It was the rough calculation of the place where the unknown craft crashed.
Every major and little faction were marked precisely on the old map, it was like their treasure, their way of avoiding any unnecessary trouble.
But there was a large area that was left unmarked, the city centre where the largest number of zombies roamed day and night.
Maybe because of the darkness or because they were too excited but they failed to noticed that whatever crash hit the place inside the no-go zone.
With such a large amount of zombies, there were bound to be some powerful evolved. There was also a rumour that there were level four or even five hiding at deeper section of the city center but no one was foolish enough to investigate it. Even if someone was brave they wouldn't be coming out to tell what they saw as they would most likely perish right after entering the edge of the zone!
No one knew why such a large amount of zombies were congregating at that place but it was seen as a 'good' place keeping them in an area so that it didn't spill out to the whole city unless someone disturbs the balance.
It seemed like the crash was such catalyst which would definitely make things more complicated for each faction that were hoping to get a piece of the pie.
" Maybe it's angry because something broke into the zone? It's not like it could eat metal. According to my calculation, the landing site is right at the edge so there could be a possibility that people would be tempted to check it out regardless of the risks."
" You are right. They might chase but from people's account the zombies for some reason would return back to the zone like they were following orders."
" Do you really think there is higher level walker inside? I mean othe than that no one would be able to control thousands of those putrid things."
" That's not out task to find out. We will have to take another vote to see if everyone still wants to go and investigate. It might not be a close investigation and we may have to look at it from afar to see those foolish enough to approach it either way there need to be a common consensus."
The voting was carried out again and it yielded the same result but their recon plan had changed. They would only observe from afar and see if anyone would be successful enough to scavenge the site, in that way they would know which faction they need to be wary off in the future.

The similar things were happening at other bases. The one that was closest to Theo's location, the leader called another emergency meeting as the sound they heard was much louder than anyone else.
They knew what they would be facing on tomorrow's mission so they needed to prepare. Due to the cry, the zombies around their base were also affected making the people that were on the night shift's life a living hell.
They had erected a large wall and had fortified any known weak points but ut didn't mean it could withstand the rampage of thousands of zombies.
Fortunately, they were specifically attacking their base but even if they were going around it some of them who were had keen sense would try to infiltrate the base when seeing the signs of life inside.
As one of the largest base, they couldn't be entirely quiet like smaller teams which was why, they needed to regularly thin out zombie numbers around them to make it more feasible for them to withstand the night when these things were more active.
" What's the status report?" The leader asked.
" Half of our manpower are on the walls skewing down the bastards that are trying to smash themselves on to the wall. It will be a tough cleanup for the new recruits tomorrow." The person in charge of the base's security said with a chuckle.
The leader smiled and nodded. No matter the situation the people he chose at high ranking position were fearless treating even the worse situation as a joke. That's how they would get through such hellish life.
" I believe you have gotten many request of sickness or some other excuses at this point from the soldiers?"
" That's to be expected. Those that never heard that cry would wet their pants, this one was close enough for them to both wet and soil it. But I will straighten them up-"
" There is no need for that. Just take our elite soldiers. The mission parameters had to change. We won't be going there guns blazing but it would be more like a stealth mission. With that monster on the lose the situation could turn from bad to worse in an instant so those that get scared easily would surely wouldn't make it. They might even disrupt our formation leading to unnecessary loses."
Everyone knew the leader was right. He had always been like this thinking quick on his feet while still trying to maximize the gain each time they went out.
The reason why they respected him also had to do with the fact he was not a battle frenzy individual trying to prove something to someone. He valued each life that served under him making him a great person to look upto, it was among few reason why they were such a successful faction after so many years.
"" We understand ""
After sending everyone away, the man stood up and resumed his posture as he looked out toward the crash site. At this point, the embers that were burning when the thing crashed had already died down making it hard for him to see anything.
" Can someone really be alive in there? If so who and where did they come from? Finally something interesting is taking place in this godforsaken city." He had a satisfied smile on his face as he continued to watch.
Although he could barely see anything he could hear many zombies whizzing past their base making it's way toward the crash site. For now, he could only hope to find something useful or else the resources would be wasted.
