I thrashed about wildly, toppling the small table next to the sofa. "Let me go! Please, Simon, stop this!"
"Is there anyone who can hear me? I need help!" I called out desperately.
A crushing sense of hopelessness washed over me.
As I was about to give in to exhaustion, a commanding voice resonated from the entryway.
"Simon! Cease this foolishness immediately!"
Simon instantly stilled, his actions coming to an abrupt halt.
Grandpa Henry entered, leaning heavily on his walking stick. Brian followed close behind, hurrying to assist me off the sofa.
"Brian, escort Valerie out of here," Grandpa instructed firmly.
Simon attempted to speak, but a harsh look from his grandfather quickly silenced him.
Once I was out of the room, I heard grandpa's voice, stern and authoritative.
"On your knees."
A resounding smack echoed through the study as he struck Simon across the cheek.
"You've shamed our family! Must I remind you of the values I instilled in you?!"
