I couldn't bear to listen to Simon's apologies any longer.
"Simon, there's no point in dwelling on 'what could have been'."
Saying sorry doesn't heal old wounds.
If remorse could make up for wrongdoings, then why did I have to endure so much suffering because of him?
Simon remained quiet for a while, his eyes growing more somber and intense.
I was about to depart when Brian appeared, approaching us.
"Valerie, Glenda's searching for you. Who are you chatting with?"
Simon's face immediately darkened, his icy gaze fixed on Brian.
"Why are you here?" He glanced between us, suddenly understanding.
"You were aware Valerie was going to leave, weren't you?"
"Brian, I considered you a brother!" Simon bellowed. His hands balled into fists, seeming ready to strike Brian at any moment.
Brian started to reply, but I grasped his arm to stop him.
This small action further upset Simon. A glimpse of anguish and hurt crossed his face.
