The moment Brian began to speak about Simon, I immediately stopped him. "What are you getting at?" I asked directly.
After a brief hesitation, Brian explained, "Following your departure, Simon frantically searched for you. He also made life difficult for Abigail—I'm sure you've heard about that."
I continued eating my meal nonchalantly and replied, "I'm aware, but it's not my concern anymore."
"Simon and I are finished. Please don't bring him up again."
Brian seemed about to say more but ultimately remained silent.
As I was returning to the museum post-dinner, I encountered Glenda Hall, the main financial backer for the exhibition.
She enthusiastically discussed various curatorial matters with me before abruptly changing the subject.
"What's your opinion of Brian?"
I gave a slight smile. "I've known him for years. He's always been dependable."
Glenda playfully tapped my head, saying, "That's not what I meant."
