Chapter 9

The package was carefully wrapped with an elegant ribbon, and a tiny card was attached. The message read, [For Mr. Rowan Bradford.]

He instantly recognized my penmanship, causing his pulse to quicken.

With shaky fingers, he undid the ribbon and lifted the lid. Inside lay a cellphone.

He eagerly picked it up, realizing it was mine.

I had erased all applications from my phone except for one: Instagram.

He clicked on the app and discovered only one conversation remaining.

It was Marion's chat window.

He accessed it and there they were. Several videos sent by Marion were visible.

The identical videos that had been displayed on the large screen earlier that day.

In that instant, Rowan finally grasped why I had vanished.

"So she's aware of everything... she knows it all..." Rowan whispered.

His thoughts raced back to the call I made before departing. He had been too engrossed with Marion, too absorbed in their relationship, to notice anything unusual about me.
