Chapter 4

"One!"

"Two!"

"Three!"

In an instant, a multitude of fireworks burst into the night sky, illuminating the darkness with vibrant displays. The three of us stood together, with Adam and Kelly embracing tightly. They appeared unmistakably as a couple from any angle.

I gazed at the fireworks, but the spectacle pained me deeply. As the pyrotechnics bloomed, they spelled out Kelly's name, not mine - Helena. It was evident who this birthday celebration and shower of sparks were intended for.

Abruptly, Adam requested the nanny to watch over me, claiming he had an urgent matter to attend to.

"Helena, wait here for my return." He planted a kiss on my forehead before hastily departing with Kelly.

Observing their retreating figures, I decided to follow them discreetly.

Eventually, my gaze settled on the doorway, where Kelly straddled Adam, kissing him passionately. Adam maneuvered, positioning Kelly beneath him.

"It's fortunate Helena couldn't see that. You actually emblazoned your name in the fireworks. Don't be so reckless in the future."

"What's there to fear? She's unable to see it."

Kelly spoke as she tore at his clothing. Their breathing grew increasingly labored, soon spiraling out of control. With shaking hands, I retrieved my phone, aimed it at them, and began recording. I captured their entanglement for its entire duration.

Finally, Kelly, exhausted, fell asleep atop Adam. Yet Adam persisted, grasping her and resuming their activities. Unable to bear more, I turned away, flushed with embarrassment.

I fled home, not daring to linger any longer. Upon arrival, I finally relinquished my attachment to Adam. I removed my wedding band and discarded it in the trash.

Returning to the bedroom, I gathered all items belonging to Adam and me, carried them to the garden, dug a large pit, and deposited them inside. I then set them ablaze, reducing everything to ash. I watched dispassionately as the flames consumed our shared memories. Adam, our future together had ended.

Just as I reentered the house, Adam burst in, perspiring profusely. He appeared relieved upon seeing me.

"Helena, why did you return home alone? It's so dangerous! You terrified me."

Adam spoke, his voice laced with concern.

I smiled, "You were gone so long, I grew frightened! So I had the nanny bring me back early."

Adam embraced me guiltily, "I'm sorry, it's entirely my fault."

Afterward, I remained silent, and Adam didn't leave. He stayed by my side constantly. We spent several quiet days together. On the seventh day, Adam accompanied me for a walk but received a call midway. He attempted to leave hurriedly, citing work overtime.

I detained him, producing a document and turning to the signature page for him.

"I have a document requiring your signature; I can't see it clearly."

Adam signed without hesitation, eager to meet Kelly.

"What kind of document? Are you planning to purchase a car or house?" He inquired while handing me a card, instructing me to make the purchase myself before departing swiftly. I barely had time to bid him farewell, and he remained oblivious that he had signed divorce papers. Evidently, he had no use for them.

I removed my sunglasses and watched Adam's retreating form, "Adam, farewell."

At home, I placed the divorce agreement and the recorded video on the coffee table. Taking a final, lingering look at the house, I picked up the gift box and left without glancing back.

Adam rushed directly to the hospital. Kelly had called, claiming she was injured. Upon arrival, he realized she had deceived him again. It was merely a minor cold.

Adam glared at Kelly disapprovingly, "Refrain from such childish behavior in the future."

As he turned to leave, the director who had treated my eyes spotted Adam and approached him worriedly, "Mr. Griffin, is it possible that Helena's eyes are troubling her again?"

Adam looked at him, puzzled by his meaning. "What do you mean by 'again'?"

"We collaborated to restore Helena's vision seven days ago. She can see now. She was so elated that she ran off, saying she wanted to share the good news with you in person at home."
