Sirius volunteered to pick the place to eat at since Saoirse didn't know the area. Usually her and Aksel ate at high end restaurants, not because she liked the food, but to practice looking rich and flaunting money.
It proved useful to know how to deal with people that were from that world, like the Alpha, but at the same time, she thought it would be more fun to see what Sirius liked to eat.
Surprisingly when she suggested this, he got excited and smiled wide and pulled away from the parking space.
"I've got the perfect place, it's the best place in town." He said.
Saoirse expected them to go somewhere in the city, but he headed towards the highway that she had come from when she first arrived and drove for several miles before exiting onto the other side of town where the city was the exact opposite. Instead of nice buildings like in the city center, there were trailer parks and kids playing in the street.
He took her past unkept houses with several families sharing them and ended up outside of a small restaurant that doubled as a family restaurant and a bar. It was open 24 hours, but mostly it served vampires which came out at night, making it a very bustling place this time of day.
The place that they pulled his nice car into was called the Roadkill grill.
"What is this place? Where are we?" She asked as he got out to open her door for her.
Some people were standing outside of the establishment smoking and sitting on motorcycles, chatting away. When they saw Sirius, they didn't seem to care that he was covered in bullet holes and blood, nor that his car was expensive and that he was a cop.
What they began whispering about when he got out of the car was that he then went and opened the passenger door to reveal a beautiful woman with white athleisure wear that showed a bit of skin on her shoulders as well as slivers of her ribs, back, and midsection where the straps didn't cover. Her hair was long, and she had a beaded tiara on.
"Who's that woman with the vampire cop?" Some of them wondered, "Isn't she a werewolf? What is a werewolf doing outside of the pack boundaries? Is she going to cause trouble? Isn't that cop married?"
He led her by the hand and as they walked past the group, one man whistled at them as they passed and said, "ooo that cop found a rich one! I knew he was a gold digger!"
Saoirse wanted to make herself small as she realized that despite being splattered with blood, she was very overdressed for the occasion in her expensive clothing.
"Don't mind them." Sirius said to her when he saw her nervously looking around her at all of the people who were staring. "They are just messing with me. I come here all of the time."
She nodded, still hugging herself and stepped inside as he opened the door for her.
The whole place was very claustrophobic with tall wooden booths and country style decorations. It had rugs on the chestnut colored wood floors, and waitresses with a little more revealing attire on and small aprons with pockets full of straws came rushing past with trays of food in their hands, and trays of beer.
Every inch of the wall was covered in decorations of country time newspapers, signed records from country singers, guitars hung up on the wall, dried chili peppers, and all sorts of other things.
The waiting area had boxes and boxes of peanuts for people to shell, which they did, and people were busy shelling peanuts there before they threw the shells onto the floor and grabbed more.
Humans were eating the peanuts, but vampires just sucked the salt off of them and spat them out.
Sirius walked through the floor covered in peanut shells to instruct Saoirse to take a seat on a bench that lined the room and wait for someone to assign them a table.
She looked around at the shells on the floor. "Is this ok for them to do? It isn't rude and unsanitary?"
"It's not in the dining area, so it's part of the aesthetic." Sirius replied. He shelled a peanut and crunched it in his mouth to show her it was ok.
"I thought vampires didn't eat most foods." She said recalling never seeing a vampire eat something like a peanut before.
"I'm a bit different." He said, "I don't burn in the sun either." He shrugged. "Maybe in our past we would know why, but I don't know why."
Saoirse nodded, "well unfortunately I still remember nothing." She said.
A woman came and offered to lead them to a table and they sat down facing each other and she handed them a couple of empty drinking glasses and a menu she then proceeded to pour Sirius some blood from a pitcher and offered Saoirse some as well.
"Hey Sirius sweetheart, who is this lovely lady?" The waitress asked him.
"She's my wife." He said smiling.
The lady raised an eyebrow at Saoirse and then said, "I never thought you were dating someone. You always come here with that green eyed girl, I guess."
"It's complicated." He said to her.
"Hmmm, well do you drink blood ma'am?" The waitress asked.
Saoirse hadn't really been the type to drink blood that she didn't know the blood type of and everything, this lady was pouring everyone's glasses with a pitcher that smelled like a mixture of many types of animals blood and even some human blood as well.
It wasn't very high quality stuff, but Sirius was sipping it and didn't seem to mind, so she nodded, "sure."
The lady smiled and filled her glass and then winked at Sirius and said, "just whistle when you are ready to order."
She walked away and Saoirse picked up her menu and looked at it. She put it down and looked at Sirius, "Why is that lady dressed like that? She's all practically showing her breasts with that shirt, I've never seen people like that."
"It's part of the asthetic too." He said, "she's dressed as a country showgirl kind of so that people give her tips."
"You seem to know her pretty well." Saoirse questioned him.
"Yeah, I work with her husband." He said. "They're good people. Her brother owns this restaurant."
"Oh I see." Then Saoirse asked him, "why doesn't she know your other wife then?"
"Oh Maeve, like I said, we don't really like the same stuff. Maeve stays home a lot. I bring her here sometimes, but she's not a fan."
——
After Sirius ordered his food, the lady came back and handed them both identical plates. Saoirse, not knowing what any of the food was had decided to have whatever Sirius was having.
"This is so good!!!" She exclaimed taking a bite of the meat and tasting other things that were on her plate.
"It's deer meat." Sirius said, "It's my favorite."
Saoirse paused and looked over at him enjoying his food and then she smiled and felt warm all over.
"What is it?" He asked as his body also filled with the joyful sensation radiating off of her.
"Oh, I never knew why I liked deer meat, but I guess it's because of you." She said smiling.
He held her hand in his from across the table and squeezed it. "I was thinking the same thing."
