IT WAS BEST FOR BOTH OF YOU

It was night time, when Dove was doing some of her stuff. Today's day a lot hectic for her, with so many things that happened since the morning.

The meal times were specially awkward, with everyone quiet. Though, they normally wouldn't talk that much in other days too. But today specially the silence was deafening. Then she heard a knock on her door, and she turned towards that direction and said, "Yes?" "Dove, it's me." She heard her grandfather's voice, from behind the door. And at that moment, she froze. Her mind went blank for a moment, before she gulped and cleared her throat. "Y- yes! Grandpa. Please come in."

And then, her grandfather pushed the door open before coming in. She looked at his solemn face, and gulped, releasing a shaky sigh. What could have happened now? Was he here to scold me? Did he come to know about the truth?! All kinds of thoughts and questions spiralled around her mind and she was nervous. Truthfully, Dove always had a very loving relationship with her grandfather. Ever since, she was a kid, he had showered her with all his love, and they shared a very nice bond.

But right now, Dove was scared.

Dove smiled at her grandpa, but the smile did not reach her eyes, and then clearing her throat, she held his hand, before helping him to the bed and said, "Please have a sit, grandpa."

Senior Sterling nodded his head, and let Dove help him to the bed. He sat, and Dove sat beside him. She smiled at him softly, before asking, "Is everything alright? It's quite late, and you are mostly asleep at this time. And yet today you are awake?" She asked with a smile and asked as if nothing was wrong.

Senior Sterling looked at Dove for a while, before he said, "I should be the one asking you that, Dove. Are you alright?"

Dove froze. As she did not expect him to say that and gulped, before slowly nodding ger head with a weary smile, "Yes, Grandpa. I am all good. What would happen to me?!"

"Today has been a long day for you, child." Senior Sterling said as he kept a hand on Dove's head before patting it.

And that was something and lost made Dove melt, and her heart quivered. Only she and her Lord knew just how much self control she had to exercise to not let tears fall.

She cleared her throat and said, "About that, Grandpa... I am so sorry. I should have told you that before. I broke off the engagement with out consulting you first. And that was very big mistake. You were put on a spot...."

Senior Sterling cut off her by saying, "You don't have to apologise for that, Dove. I understand why you broke off the engagement. It is the best of the both of you. And truthfully it is better that you are the one... who broke of the engagement instead of the other way around."

Dove raised her eyebrows hearing that, as she was genuinely surprised.

"But it would have been still better if you would have told about that to me first. I think then, maybe the situation would have been handled even better."

And by that, Dove understood that Senior Sterling meant that he wouldn't let the Davis' family even try to take advantage of the situation.

And by that, Dove had initially thought that she would at first discuss with Senior Sterling about this, and then they would take an action. But life happened in such a way, that she couldn't just do what she had planned.
