Blake's POV
I was so pissed off. The only reason I was still holding on to my composure was for Brielle and everyone else. All I wanted was to go inside the cellar and kill that fucking bastard. Especially after what he did to my father. We nearly lost him too. Mother was worried sick. I've never seen her so scared in my life. Thanks to the heavens, my father is such a fighter. He managed to pull through and he still lives. But that Julian won't be alive for much longer after we interrogate him and get him to tell us where his leader is.
I woke up early in the morning and went on a run. I couldn't sleep all night thinking. All I did was watch Brielle's sleep. She needs the rest. The pack was a mess and everyone was pitching in, trying to rebuild and fix some of the stuff that had been ruined. Most of the pack members were safe and there were not many casualties. Most importantly, children and women were safe.
I ran in human form through the woods trying to clear my head. I was too heated, and I needed to let off some steam. After running, I don't know for how long, I stopped. Breathing heavily and sweating, I saw the sun fully rise. It was such a beautiful sight. It had been a little while ago since I had seen this sight. There was a little stream a few feet away from me, so I walked over and splashed my face with water. After I waited there for a little while, I headed back to the pack house. I went to my parents' room to go and check on my father.
My father was weak and sleeping. My mother looked tired and really worn out. I sighed and hugged my mother. She needed comfort. I can't imagine the pain she must be going through to see her husband in a pitiful state. I feel like a failure. Yet again, I failed to protect someone I really care about.
" How is he?" I asked.
She sniffled and went back to his sight.
" He had a fever last. He had a hard time sleeping and groaning in pain. It got better after a few hours. He fell asleep not long ago."
" What about you? I bet you didn't get to sleep all night. Let me take over and get in a few hours of sleep," I suggested.
She shook her head.
" No, I'm fine. I want to stay by his side. He needs me."
" Mom, please. I know you want to stay here, but you know dad won't like to see you looking so exhausted. Nothing Wil happen to dad right now. I will stay here, and you can go and sleep and later freshen up."
She tried to protest, but I ended up convincing her to go before she passed out. After she left, I sat on the couch just staring at my dad sleeping. It's a first for me as well to see him like this. There were hardly any attacks on the pack before, so no one close to me ever got this injured. My father is our family's pillar of strength. He can't die, or we would completely be shartted.
I ended up dozing off on the couch and when I woke up, I was covered with a blanket.
I spotted Brielle who was now seated on mom's chair, tending to my father.
She turned to look at me, noticing that I had woken up.
" Did I wake you up?" She asks.
I got up and stretched my limbs. " Oh, no. It was time I got up. I didn't even realize that I felt asleep. I promised mother that I would take of dad. Thank you for taking over for me."
" It's not a problem. You must have been tired. You left bed very early."
" What time is it?" I asked.
" It's 10 am."
" Okay. Let me leave you to it," I said, gesturing to my father.
" I'm going to take a shower and I will be back. "
" Alright."
I left and went to the room next door to see if mother was sleeping as I had asked.
I opened the door and the bed was empty, untouched with no one in sight. I could f even sense her presence.
" Where is she?" I muttered in confusion. She was never there. I closed the door and started looking for her. As I was about to make my way downstairs, I remembered something.
If I am right, she might be there. I headed to Mia's room down the hall. Mom sometimes spends time in Mia's room. I saw her in there more than once just sitting on the bed with some of Mia's stuff in the room. I never interrupted her, just wanting her to be at peace.
I went over there wanting to just make sure that she was really in there and safe. Indeed, I was right. She was lying on the bed clutching one of Mia's pillows. I sighed in relief. Nothing in Mia's room was moved. Everything was the way she left it. Mom makes sure to put everything the way it was once she gets out.
I closed the door and made my way to my room.
