Chapter 34: Where were you?

As Aleric came down the mountain, the sight of all those dead wendigos made him whoop in joy.

Which was short-lived, for Brunhilde passed him the worst and meanest right hook anyone had ever passed him.

"Where were you?" Brunhilde yelled.

Michael gasped and hid behind Arnold. Brenda started to cry. Arnold just sighed.

"Honey, the boy has enough scars," Arnold said, knowing that if he pointed out that Aleric was wounded enough, Brunhilde would let him be.

"I can't outrun a wendigo! And if had turned into a dragon here, where there is one colony, the other colonies would have come in full force!" Aleric defended himself. "And we shouldn't be yelling right now, either. What if the snow falls on our heads?"

Brunhilde looked in the direction from which Aleric had come. The truth was that with two children, there was no way they could pass through the mountain.

She was a mother first. Wife second. A kind soul, third.
