Chapter 54: The past

Fin looked at the small milk balls. With their cocoa coating, they made her remember happier times.

Of late nights when she could not sleep, a storm raging outside. Of an older brother who would sneak them into the kitchen, so they could make something to snack on.

She knew that Solas was going to die soon, if he did not get the nymph's heart. Knew the man deserved it.

For all that he had done to his people. For all that he had done to her.

Her fingers twitched. A single milk ball found itself between her teeth.

She chewed.

Remembering a smile on a face she had believed was her home. Remembering the twinkle in Solas' eyes.

Before he had decided that the throne was more important than the sister he had raised.

"Darn it," Fin said, a tear rolling down her cheek. "Darn it all to hell!"

Her instincts screamed at her to throw the box into the snow. To rub the milk balls into the snow and mud. To give Solas that, which he deserved!
