Emma woke up to the sound of her alarm. She did not feel like waking up yet but she had a job to go to. She faced the alarm and turned it off then sat on her bed.
She got out of the bed, and went to the tall mirror in her room. She glanced at her reflection, taking a moment to appreciate her figure. She always had a nice figure which she did not have to do much to keep, she just kept on a diet.
She went to the bathroom and removed the clothes she was wearing. She turned on the shower and let water rain on her body.
When she finished, she turned it off and used a towel to dry off. She left the bathroom and wore new clothes, a black gown.
Her phone buzzed from the bedside table, where it had been charging overnight. The phone began to ring, she went over to the table and picked it up. She saw that it was Sophie who was calling.
Sophie Martinez, Emma's only close friend, they have been friends since they were little and since then they have been inseparable.
Emma picked the call and left her room, "Good morning Soph." She went to her kitchen.
"Hey girl, I hope you are still coming for the party tonight." Sophie said, her voice as lively as ever.
"Honestly I am not really sure about that, you know I will be going to work."
"C'mon girl, you work too much, you should take a break sometimes."
Emma opened her fridge and brought out a loaf of bread, some vegetables and butter. "Don't you have work to go to yourself?"
"Well yeah but I don't work that late and I don't work all the time, only when I have to." Sophie replied. "What are you up to?"
"I am making breakfast, sandwich." Emma put her phone on the table in front of her and put the call on loudspeaker.
She got two slices of bread, then put the vegetable and butter in between it and made a sandwich.
"Just try and come to the party Emma, you hardly come out of that apartment of yours."
"I do come out of my apartment to go to work." Emma started to eat the sandwich.
"You know, if you come tonight, you might actually find a nice guy you can mingle with. It is sad to see how lonely you are."
"I am not lonely Soph, I am still trying to make something of myself in my job. And you are telling me to find love at a party, really?"
"I didn't say anything about love, just have some fun with someone."
Emma finished the sandwich and drank some water, "If I stay in the apartment any longer I will be late for work so I will be going now."
Emma went to the living room and grabbed her hand bag on the couch then went to the door and took the apartment keys.
"So tell me that you will come to the party pleaseeee."
"Alright, I will try my best to come, talk to you later, I love you." Emma ended the call."
She dropped her phone into her handbag and left her apartment. She locked the door and walked out of the apartment building.
Emma left her hometown where she was living with her parents to come to the city to chase her dream and that is what she has been doing.
She was out on the road side, it was still early but the city was filled with noise from the traffic. She did not have a car so she stood where she was, waiting for a taxi.
She saw a taxi coming and flagged it down, the taxi stopped close to her so she opened the door and entered the taxi.
"Where to ma'am?" The taxi driver asked.
"Ominicore." Emma replied.
The taxi driver faced his starring wheel and started to drive.
Emma did not need to talk about the directions to Ominicore because everyone in the city knew about it. It was one if the world's leading Tech Company and its main base is in the town.
Growing up, it has been Emma's dream to work there. She was an exceptional student in school, always getting the top marks. And she is good with electronics and tech. She got into Omnicore by herself, with no connections.
The taxi stopped, "We have reached our destination." The taxi driver said.
Emma opened her bag and brought some money out of it, "Here, keep the change." She gave the money to the taxi driver.
She opened the car door and came out. The taxi drove off and she walked towards the building. When she got to the building entrance she stopped and started to look at it.
The building was a multi-story building, it was one of the biggest buildings in the city, and it was like a landmark.
She brought her phone out of her bag and checked the time, "Thank God I'm not late." She said to herself and went into the building.
She walked straight up the elevator and as she did that, she greeted a few people. Emma did not spend time with too many people and she did not like having too many friends but she was a nice and thoughtful person so people easily liked her.
She entered the elevator and as she was about to close it, someone rushed and stopped her, "Sorry I am already late." It was a man who works in the company.
As the elevator started to go to the upper floor. She was in front of the man and she started using her phone.
"Hey, aren't you Emma from the security department?"
Emma turned to the man, "Yeah I am." She replied.
"I've heard good things about your department's work. Seems like everything's been running smoothly since you joined" The man said to her.
"Thank you but I am just doing my job just like everyone else."
The company base is divided by different departments and Emma was in the security department.
Being in the security department, she had to come up with new technologies to advance security for people and other things.
The elevator stopped and it was her stop so she came out. She went on to her department. She got to the department and just like everything else in the building, the door was glass.
Before she could open the door to enter, someone from inside opened it for her.
"Great you are here, I need your help with something" Tommy said as he held the door for Emma.
Tommy Reynolds is Emma's coworker, they both work in the same department but he has worked in the company far longer than her. He is a very smart guy with so many degrees.
He has a huge crush on Emma but he has not told her about it, scared of what she will say and he knows that she is not looking to be with anyone now.
Emma entered, "What is it?" She asked.
"Well it is the new system we have been working on, it's missing something and I'm stumped. I figured you might have a fresh perspective." Tommy replied.
