Chapter 2

"Well, no fresh perspective here, but maybe we could shift our focus to the other system. It's better than being stuck on one thing, waiting for inspiration" Emma suggested as she headed back to her desk.

"Yeah you are right, I'm sure something will come up eventually." Tommy agreed. "So how was your night?" He went to her.

Emma have not noticed Tommy's feelings for her because whenever they were together, it was strictly work and she also thinks he is that type of person that likes to talk a lot.

"There was nothing special about my night Tommy, but it was okay. I was exhausted from staying late. I honestly didn't want to get out of bed this morning."

"Yeah you work too much honestly, you need some time to relax and rest." Tommy said. "While we are in that topic, I will you be free later today, we could go get dinner after work."

"I would love to but I think I will work late today and if I don't, Sophie actually invited me to a party."

"A party? You?" Tommy's asked, surprised.

"Well yeah, I'm still thinking about it because she really wants me to come this time. But I am still not sure if I will be able to go or not."

"You know, I'm still wondering how you are friends with Sophie, considering how different you two are."

"Yeah but we practically grew up together, we are used to each other and respect each other." Emma said. "We still have work to do so let's get on with it shall we."

One thing Tommy admired about Emma, was her dedication. She always does everything in her power to get what she wants. Tommy still wanted to talk to her more but he knew that there was work to do.

"Alright." Tommy went to his desk.

The day flew by and soon it was evening. Tommy and Emma were still working in their department.

"Can all the employees gather in the lobby for an important announcement?" An announcement came from a speaker in their department.

"Well that is rare." Tommy stopped what he was doing.

"Yeah it is. Lets go then." Emma went towards the exit of the department and Tommy followed her behind.

"What do you think the announcement will be about?" Tommy asked Emma when they left the department.

"I guess we will find out soon." Emma replied.

They entered the elevator and went down to the last floor, the lobby. The elevator reached and they came out. As soon as they came out of the elevator, they saw other employees gathering one place so they went there.

They got to the gathering but they were behind, so they tried to see what was in front. They were finally able to see and it was the heads of the department on a high platform but there was someone else with them.

It was man wearing a suit, a very expensive one. Emma Instantly recognized him. It was Julian stone,

heir to Omnicore, the man poised to inherit the company .

"I know you all already know who I am so I won't waste any of your time introducing myself." Julian said with the microphone. "You must be wondering why am I here, well it is because you all have been doing such a great job making the company progress." He continued.

Emma listened intently. His voice carried authority and he clearly knew how to command attention.

"You know who he is right?" Tommy asked Emma.

"Yeah I do, I mean what kind of employee would I be if I didn't."

"Oh, I just thought that because this is the first time he's been here since you starting working." Tommy said.

"On behalf of my family, we want you to know that we recognize your hard work. We recently reached a new milestone, becoming the second largest tech company in the world." Julian said.

The employees started to clap as Julian said that, but Emma and Tommy just stood there.

"Look at him, he will own this company and become the CEO anytime soon without doing anything for it. I am sure he doesn't even know anything about tech." Tommy said to Emma.

"You shouldn't be thinking like that." Emma faced Tommy. "Yeah sure things comes easy for him but that is his life, instead of thinking about what we can't change, we should think about something we can change, which is our lives." She continued.

"Yeah you're right, sorry about that."

"No need to say sorry." Emma said as they continued to listen to Julian.

"So that is all I have to say, I hope you all continue your hard work."

After saying that, Julian left the platform and walked out of the building.

"Okay now, you all can get back to work." One of the head of department said to the employees.

The employees started to head back to their departments and so did Emma and Tommy.

Before they left the lobby someone called Emma. She tuned back to see who it was and it was the head of the security department, Michael.

"What do you need sir." Emma said when Michael got to her.

"How are you doing today Emma?" Michael asked.

"I am fine sir."

"I guess you already heard what Julian Stone said just now." Michael said.

"Yeah I did."

"Well before the announcement, we had a meeting with him, other heads of department and I. His family is throwing a cooperative party tomorrow and Julian invited the heads of the department to come." Michael, explained.

"That is nice sir." Emma said.

"It is, and I want you to come with me." Michael said.

"But why sir? I mean I don't think I will fit in to that kind of party and I still have work to do tomorrow."

"Well you are the reason why our department is in the position it is in, so it's only reasonable I invite you to come with me. And please don't refuse, I am telling you as the head of your department." Michael said.

Emma could not refuse since Michael put it like that, she did not want go to the party but she had no choice. "Alright sir, I will join you to the party tomorrow."

"Great." Michael said.

"And sir, can I get off work early today, I have something really important I need get to." Emma asked.

"Sure you can, you work too much anyway." Michael agreed.

Tommy, who had been listening to the conversation wasn't about to let this opportunity pass and suddenly he spoke up

"Sir!" Tommy called Michael as he was about to walk away.

"Can I join you two tomorrow, to the party?" Tommy asked.

Tommy thought that if he joined them, it will be the first time that he will be together with Emma somewhere other than their work environment and he was not going let this chance go away.

Michael thought, "Sure you can come."

Michael walked away from them, Tommy's excitement grew and he could not wait for tomorrow.
