Chapter 16

Emma brought out her phone, "So this is where they live, we can use the map to get there."

"Oh, don't worry about that, we don't need it, I know the place." Sophie said.

"How do you know that?" Emma asked curiously.

"Well my parent's know them and I have been there before." Sophie replied.

"Wait! So you are family friends then."

"I won't say that, my parents just had a partnership with them a while ago on something. They still talk now but not frequently." Sophie said. "You know there was even a time they wanted to match me with Julian but that did not work out at all."

"Wow, what happened?" Emma asked.

"That will be a story for another day, it's a really long story."

"Alight then." Emma said. "That reminds me, what about the suitor your mother found for you?"

"Well just as usual that didn't go anywhere, I don't know why mom still try." Sophie replied.

Emma kept her phone back in the purse she was with and relaxed on the seat.

"I wish things can just end between me and Julian just like the suitors your mom brings." Emma said. "Since you somewhat know about the Stone family, and since I am going to meet them, why don't you tell me about them so I will be a little bit prepared.

"To be honest I don't really know much about them. On the surface they are really good people and a nice couple too. Sophie said.

"Just that?" Emma asked.

"Sadly yes, they are really private people. They are meeting up with you just to know you more."

"Yeah I already know that."

"You know after meeting them today, I think they will end up liking you more. And that won't be good if you want to stop the engagement."

"Speaking about them liking me, I actually meet up with Julian last night." Emma said.

"You did what!!" Emma shouted. "Why are you just telling me now?"

"Well he called me last night and wanted us to talk before I meet his parents."

"Let me guess, he wanted to know where you stand in all this and also talk about how to stop the engagement.

"Exactly." Emma said. "How did you guess correctly?

"I don't know, I guess it's kind of obvious."

"He certainly don't want the engagement and he suggested that I make his parents not to like me." Emma said.

"That was really insensitive of him but I am not really surprisd." Sophie said.

"You are not surprised?"

"Yeah, Julian is a rare case, it's also part of the reason our match did not work, but I guess he is better now." Sophie said.

"I am confused now." Emma said.

"It's complicated and since you plan to stop the engagement with him then there is no need to go into it."

"Well that is different." Emma said.

"What is?"

"I mean you are always so eager to talk about stuffs but now you don't want to talk, especially about the Stone family."

"I guess it's not really relevant, and not interesting at all." Sophie said.

"Alright, and also, today I met Lila, Julian's ex."

"Wow, how did that happen?" Sophie asked.

"Well she was actually following me, she confronted me at the super market when I went to get milk."

"That is creepy, what did she say?"

"She threatened me, she told me to stay away from Julian."

"Didn't they break up?" Sophia asked.

"Yeah they did, but she is still obsessed with him."

"I don't really know anything about her so I don't know what to say, so just avoid her." Sophie said.

"Yeah you don't need to tell me twice but I don't think that will help much."

"Don't worry, I will look into her and see if she is actually a treat."

"Thanks."

Sophie stopped the car, "Well we are here."

Emma looked out of the window and saw the mansion. "Wow."

"Yeah I know, it's really something." Sophie said.

They both came out of the car and stood in front of the mansion gate. Sophie looked at Emma and saw how tense she was and that was a rare sight for her.

"You know we don't have to go today, there is always another day." Sophie said to Emma.

"No, it's alright. I can do this, I want to get this over with and think of what to do next to stop the engagement from happening." Emma replied.

They walked to the gate and pressed a button there, "Uhmm, it's Emma Cartwright, I am here to see Gabriel and Julian Stone." Emma said to the microphone.

As she said that, the gate slowly opened on its own and they both walked in.

The compound was bigger inside and Emma kept on looking around as they walked.

There was a big fountain with water coming out of it. The surrounding was filled with mostly grass and flowers, there were gardeners around taking care of it. Multiple cars of different varieties were also in the compound.

Emma and Sophie finally got to the entrance of the main building.

"Should we just go in?" Emma asked Sophie.

Before Sophie could reply, someone opened the door from the other side and it was one of the maid in the mansion. "This way, I will take you to them." The maid said.

Emma and Sophie continued inside the mansion behind the maid they were following.

Inside there were a lot of exotic painting, different vase and antics.

"I wonder how much those painting costs." Emma said.

"Yeah, trust me, you do not want to know." Sophie replied.

From a distance, Emma saw Julian leaning on a door looking at her.

"Julian is here." Emma said to Sophie.

Sophie looked around and saw Julian, "Yeah I guess he is."

"Is he normally here, in the mansion?" Emma asked.

"No, I guess he comes here when it's important and I guess you being here is kind of important." Sophie replied.

Emma tried her best not to look at Julian as they passed, him but it was in vain, their eyes meet.

The maid finally stopped in front of a door so they also stopped. Then two men walked out of the door.

Emma looked at the men, they both wore a coat and one of them wore a hat. She noticed that they had a gun and there was a badge on their chest, a police badge.

"They will see you now." The maid said to Emma as she opened the door.

Emma was still curious why the police would be in the mansion but she had bigger things to worry about so she did not think about it.
