In the grandeur of the Jones Mansion, Evelyn adorned herself elegantly, preparing for the day she would officially propose to Edward. While hope filled her heart that he would accept, she battled the fear of being misunderstood—a dread of being seen as a gold digger or worse. Pushing these intrusive thoughts aside, she focused on the fond memories of their childhood. Evelyn recalled Edward's promises to stand by her side and his childhood declaration to marry her someday.
FLASHBACK
Evelyn, aged 3, and Edward, 5, shared a unique bond amidst the challenges she faced. Always unfairly reprimanded, regardless of fault, Evelyn found solace in a distant public park one day, when her family opted to visit an amusement park without her. There, she observed a harmonious family of four enjoying each other's company, igniting a sense of longing within her for such carefree moments. Her yearning caught Edward's attention, and he, determined to uplift her spirits, initiated a playful encounter. Their playtime fostered a special closeness, culminating in a promise between them to marry when they grew up.
END OF FLASHBACK
The warmth of this memory faded abruptly as the discordant voices of her parents echoed downstairs. Alarmed, Evelyn rushed to the dining room, only to be met with a slap from her father for being tardy to breakfast. The blame game resumed, with the Jones siblings pointing fingers at Evelyn for everything amiss. Olivia tried to defend her, but Jack silenced her. Unperturbed by Evelyn's feelings, Erica served breakfast, rebuffing Evelyn's attempts to appreciate her cooking and urging her to leave for college, despite the ample time remaining before her classes.
Feeling dejected, Evelyn bid everyone a good day, met with indifference from all except Olivia. With a heavy heart, she silently exited the mansion. Gradually, one by one, each family member dispersed to their respective destinations.
That’s it for now…
