Chapter 12: Gift Card

Aurora: "..." They were calling her poor?

"Don't...she only has $117 as her bank balance, yet she is ready to give you all a gift!"

Theodore nearly choked on his soup, laughing so hard he had to pat his chest.

"Wait, wait—so the fairy godmother is broke and stingy? Aurora, you're the first person I've heard of with a dollar store fairy godmother!"

Aurora puffed her cheeks, looking offended.

"She's not stingy! She's… realistic! And besides, she said the magic works best with a budget!"

Olivia snorted, wiping tears from her eyes.

"Oh, so your fairy godmother is on a student budget! That explains so much."

Adriana, who had been trying to hide her amusement, finally cracked a smile.

"Alright, alright, I'll take back my $50,000 wish. Can your fairy godmother at least get me a lifetime supply of Star Icon lip gloss? That's worth $50, right?"

Aurora instantly nodded,

"She can!"

Theodore pretended to heave a sigh of relief and patted his chest,

"Thank god, she can afford that much. But do you know the delivery date of $50 gift card by chance?"

"By tomorrow! It will arrive by tomorrow." Aurora lifted her chin.

The table burst into laughter again, and Aurora crossed her arms.

"Fine, laugh all you want, but when you see your $50 gift come true, don't come crying to me for more!"

The next day, Aurora went to the physical store of Star Icon and bought a gift card worth $50.

On reaching her home, she found Adriana's makeup purse and slid the gift card into her bag. She attached a note to it,

'Your wish has come true.'

Once done, Aurora quickly typed in the purchase and waited for the transaction to be successful.

However unlike before, she didn't receive any success or failure notice, instead, she received a message saying:

'Purchase has been registered. Since the item has not been received by the recipient, the rebate will be put on hold for a while.'

Aurora was tensed slightly. She closed the website and started to stare at the clock for Adriana to return.

Just then, Olivia poked her head into the room, her trademark smirk already in place.

"What's wrong, Aurora? Did your fairy godmother max out her magic card?"

Aurora shot her a glare.

"For your information, the gift is already delivered! And it's perfect. Better than anything you'll ever get."

Olivia raised an eyebrow, leaning against the doorframe.

"Oh really? What did she do? Slide it under a pillow like a tooth fairy?"

Aurora huffed, crossing her arms.

"No. I don't know where it is. I only know fairy godmother has given the gift to Adriana already."

In the evening when Adriana came back from her part-time job, Aurora waited patiently.

Sure enough, after 10 minutes, Adriana came out of her room with a baffled expression,

"Um, who put this in my bag?"

Olivia and Theodore who were sitting in the living room, quickly shook their head, while Aurora grinned,

"See I told you! Fairy godmother kept her promise."

Adriana shook her head with a firm expression,

"No Aurora, it might have been misplaced, or father or mother might have bought it for me. There is no such thing as a fairy godmother."

'Of course there isn't.' Aurora muttered in her heart, but she needed an excuse for spending money on Adriana and others.

Aurora puffed her cheeks and crossed her arms, looking super serious.

"No way! The fairy godmother is real, and she gave me a special mission to make sure everyone gets what they deserve. That gift card is yours, Adriana, so stop doubting her magic!"

Adriana sighed, rubbing her temples.

"Aurora, you're sweet, but—"

"No buts!" Aurora interrupted, standing up dramatically.

"Fairy godmother said to trust the magic, and I trust it!"

Olivia rolled her eyes.

"Oh please. If the fairy godmother is so magical, why is her budget $50? Shouldn't she be, like, unlimited rich?"

Aurora shot her a look.

"Because she's not wasteful, unlike some people who spend their money on useless things."

Before Olivia could argue back, Theodore spoke up, trying to keep the peace.

"Alright, alright. Let's say the fairy godmother is real. Aurora, how come she only does stuff for your siblings? What about you?"

Aurora froze for a second, then quickly smiled.

"Oh, I told her I didn't need anything. I want to use my wishes to make my family happy!"

That made everyone go quiet for a moment.
