An unexpected ally

"What is a human doing with these creatures?"

"Who knows, the captain did say that he wanted to kill a human that was hanging around the village we captured"

I could hear people talking close to us.

My head was throbbing, and I was slowly waking up. I tried to move my arms to get up, but I could not.

When I was conscious enough to understand what was happening, I noticed was restrained and held on the ground. I looked around, and they were soldiers of the Sacred Army who somehow managed to catch us from behind.

It was night already, Maybe we have been here for a while.

"Have you heard about Jett and Mae?" One of them spoke.

"We haven't heard of them since they went out scouting," answered the other. Do you think one of these guys got them?"

Jett and Mae… those are the siblings we fought with Dara. They never went back to their army? Did they split or did something happen to them?

I looked around, but my captors did not notice I woke up. They were sitting in front of a fire, there were 3. I could see the colors they were wearing. All of them were men.

Around me were the vulpin and the goblin I saw before getting stunned. Nayleth was there, unconscious. The goblin girl was awake, trying to fight against her restraints.

I tried to move again and fight against them. I did not want to find out what they were going to do with us.

[ERROR ERROR ERROR]

What?! What is that? Why is it showing errors now? It did when I received the quest and now it was doing it again. If I talk with that woman once more I will ask her what is happening.

Then the messages disappeared the same way they appeared. Hopefully, they stop appearing, but I knew that was wishful thinking. They kept scaring me when they did.

"Hey, the human woke up!" I heard one of the soldiers talk.

The closest one was looking towards me, with a smirk on his face of amusement. I could hear him laugh. The other two joined him and turned towards me.

"Let me go!" I demanded as if that would do anything.

"Yeah, sure," said the one that noticed me. He had a long beard and body.

"So, what' cha did the capt'n want ya dead?" Said the one on the right.

"Why don't you ask him?" I said in response.

The three started to laugh when I answered.

"The young one has spirit!" said the first one, with a condescending tone.

I needed to do something soon, somehow I must make it out of this one alive.

Then I remembered. Cannot I just talk with Kali?

"Kali! Dara!" I repeated in my head, thinking about the two women.

"Marcel!" Dara answered.

"You are alive!" Kali said I could notice a certain excitement from her "I mean, I thought you were feeling like a coward once more, you idiot!"

Okay, she is getting predictable at this point. What the hell is her problem?!

"I need help!" I brushed off her comment "A group of soldiers from the Sacred Army captured us! We are in the middle of the forest I don't know where!"

"We sent a search party already a couple of hours ago," Dara said "How is Nayleth?"

"Unconscious"

"Hey! He must be contacting the Queen!" Then the third of the soldiers yelled.

It should have been obvious I would look for her. If only I knew how to figure out our exact location. The last thing I remember is that we were close to the lake, but who knows where they took us.

"Quickly, put him to sleep!" said the one with the weird accent.

The one in the middle stood up with a big hammer in his hands.

"I told you two capturing them was a bad idea!" he said "We either kill them or drug them so they cannot call"

He was getting closer. I tried to continue fighting against the ropes that were keeping me on the floor, but to no avail. They were secure, all I was managing was to get myself hurt on them. He was either going to kill me now or make sure I didn't wake up.

"The cap'n would give us rewards if we got'im alive!" said the one with the weird accent.

I suppose he would want a chance to be the one to kill me.

"You spineless bastards!" then yelled the goblin woman.

The one that was approaching me stopped and looked at me.

"What did you say, monster?"

"Attacking noncombatants? You are just cowards!" she yelled with a smug smile "Bet you are sent here instead of the real wars because you chicken out when someone has a sword aiming at you!"

"Oh, you shut your trap!" said the one with the weird accent "Ya got trapped by us! What does that say about ya?"

"I am not a fighter either, you stupid brainless idiot!" she yelled.

She was sure talking a lot while being held a prisoner.

They are distracted, though. None of them were looking at me. I continued struggling against the ropes but… huh?

Both my hands and legs were free. I looked down and found the ropes holding me not with a clear and clean cut that was not there before, allowing me to be free. And then I noticed behind me, someone left a dagger for me to take.

Whoever it was, it did a good job of keeping quiet.

"Dara, Kali," I said "I will try to tell you where I am soon. This is going to get nasty"

"W-what is happening?!" Kali asked.

I looked down at the goblin girl, who was still throwing insults at the soldiers. Then she noticed I was staring at her.

When she saw I was free, her eyes widened, and smiled. I quickly acted like I was restrained and got myself into position.

The soldier, when he noticed the goblin woman's gaze, looked at me. I put up my best act.

"Let me go, you stupid pricks!" I yelled, acting like I was fighting against my restraints "I will kill all of you when I get free!"

I acted like I was yanking my arms to pull them out, only to fail miserably. The acting lessons I took during school were useful for something at least.

"We heard that one before," said the soldier.

He raised his mace and aimed at my head.

Now or never!

I rolled to the side, away from him, and managed to avoid the attack.

The mace hit the ground with force, making a loud thud. The other soldiers stood up from their positions.

"Ya idiot! Ya let'im escape!" Yelled one of them.

I was outnumbered, so I was in the need for a plan, I was going to die if I just went in to fight directly with them.

[ERROR ERROR ERROR]

Again?!

The soldier started to swing his weapon, and it almost hit me but I managed to move backwards.

The error messages were still in front of me. And seeing the soldier was still engaging me, he was not seeing them. It was something only I could see.

A small light appeared on the soldier. He was using a skill! He raised his weapon over himself.

"[Smoldering Crush]!" a flame appeared on his weapon.

"[Staggering Fang]!" I used it at the same time.

I was faster with the dagger and managed to land the hit before him.

[-125 Stagger!]

"Damn it!" yelled the soldier as he lost the balance from the cut. He took a couple of steps back and fell on his back.

Well, the skill tree is working, but now I had the issue of the other two soldiers standing up and drawing their weapons. One had a spear and the other a bow.

"[Piercing Snipe]!" yelled the one with the bow, using a skill.

The arrow was flying directly towards me, my brain managed to register it and say that I had to move, but I could barely manage to make my body go.

That is when a big figure appeared in front of me from the side, growling. It stood in front of the arrow and received it, whimpering when it got hit.

"W-what the heck?!" yelled the one with the weird accent.

"What in the name of Kalia is that thing?!"

That is when I managed to notice what it was. It was the wolf, the White Wolf, the leader pact we fought just the other day!

"Don't you dare kill my future mate!" she yelled in a feminine voice.

Wait, she can talk? Is female…? FUTURE MATE?! I hope she was not talking about me!

It started to growl towards the soldiers, a situation I was not expecting to happen. The White Wolf was defending me for some reason, standing in front of us like a shield.

This world was giving me more surprises each new day.
