EIGHT
Noah's POV
The more I tried to stay away from Isabella, the closer she got. Not that it was pre-planned and even though I hated to admit this, but it seemed like our meeting was never coincidental.
She spoke fluently and had the sense of good conversation. Everytime I was with her, I felt like gripping her to a very tight hug while the memories of the past reminisced. Elena, who was my dear mate, was everything to me.
She was my type of person and I couldn't cope with losing her. Not when I killed her. Elena knew that I was a vampire. Of course. She was fascinated to be my appointed mate in the whole realm of vampires. There were ladies who would wiggle their asses right in front of me to seduce me and have me claim them, but I never did. Elene was my soulmate and my spirit was crushed totally when I found out that she died in my hands just because I couldn't control myself.
I tried to hint at who I was, to Isabella today but she didn't quite grasp the idea. Different from other vampires, I would really like to introduce myself to whoever I am close to. I hated to hide my real self from them. There would be a certain level of trust before calling someone my friend and if the trust has been built, why hide the truth from them? If she feels safe with you and loves you, she won't be scared of your nature and weaknesses.
It was another night in my large old building and unexpectedly, I heard a creek in the door. I whooshed in the direction of the door and simply asked for the person's identity. He didn't say any words and I smelled him already. Why did he change his mind and decide to come today?
"Isaac?" I simply asked to be sure if he was the one standing by the doorstep indeed. Not that I was always doubtful of my sensory abilities but I've abstained from what gives vampires the energy and there are be consequences for doing that.
I crraked the door open but I didn't see him there. Hissing slightly, I tried to shut it but he whooshed in before the door slammed shut. He reminded me of the good old days when Elena and I would go to the depths of the woods and whoosh together whenever we sight any rogues. She felt very safe with me not to have taken off when she realized that the bloodlust was taking control of me.
"Brother Noah, how nice it is to reconnect with you once again." Isaac offered a hand and gave me that vampire smile that triggered memories.
"You dickhead. I shouldn't have opened the door. You promised to come tomorrow and not today."
"Well, life is full of surprises and this is one of them. I need to be sure that you kept your promise. Where's the girl you promised to get close to, so as to prove to me that you've gotten over Elena?" Isaac probed and I chuckled softly.
"I can explain." I simply said and we both laughed at that. It felt weird to laugh once again. It felt weird to hear the voice of someone else in this large building. I was used to staying alone and this would either be a better or a worse life, staying with my brother.
"Welcome, Isaac, to the home of the depressed former vampire King Noah." I raised my voice and pulled him into a big hug. He hugged me as well and we quickly pulled away. "How was the trip? Did you take a taxi or you whooshed? I know you don't have a car."
"No, you don't have to say that too quickly. Roast not your brother or I'll place you under the sun." He said jokingly.
"I really can walk in the sun. Can't you?" I asked while leading him to the inner rooms. Our voices echoed and I grabbed a bottle of beer showing it to him to request for his interest.
"I'm exhausted. I need some of that. Sun? Walking in the sun? Vampire stuff? I am never talking about that until you show me the girl you have started relating with." He insisted and crashed onto the bed.
"I don't have any girl to show to you. I am keeping to myself and I don't want to get killed by exposing myself to anyone else." I replied in my deep voice. I was actually teasing him. The ones who knew who I was, were around and living pretty close to my house. I knew who they were, as well, including Isabella's new friend.
"No, you don't get to tell me that." He stood up in a fit of playful rage. "We will visit one of the coffee shops tomorrow by evening and I'll make sure you speak with one of the girls. You may die of boredom if you don't."
"That reminds me. How is Edward?" I asked and sat on the edge of the bed with him.
"Our uncle? He's the new vampire King now. Aren't you aware? See? Your girl could have told you this if you had one."
"No, I won't even tell her what I am. She really won't know. There's no replacement for Elena."
"There will be. A vampire needs strength and it's gotten from the love, the obsession with your beloved mate. I am watching you nevertheless." He sighed and stared at the ceilings. It was very late in the middle of the night.
"How did Edward become the new vampire King? Who informed him that I left the throne?"
"The walls have ears. That's the least thing you need to worry about." Isaac said and suddenly turned to me. "Did you return to drinking blood?"
"I will not do that again."
"We can drink directly from the animals, and not humans. You need strength. You couldn't even pull the door on time."
"Too much strength will make her run away from me, Isaac." I said and suddenly I realized that I had spilled the beans.
He grabbed the collar of my shirt and playfully screamed at me. "Come on, brother, have I ever exposed any of your secrets? You got a girl. Who is she?"
"You must be disturbing the peace of the neighborhood, Isaac. If I've got a girl indeed, she will come to this house tomorrow morning." I said. He claimed that life was full of surprises and I really wanted to prove it to him.
"What is she?"
"I didn't smell anything though."
"Human." He gritted his teeth and dropped his hands from my collar. "Of course she's human. You are mostly attracted to humans."
"Just as you're attracted to nothing." I playfully teased and whooshed to the living room before he could catch up with me. He whooshed and got to me on time, pulling me back.
"How did you do that?"
"I was the former King. Don't underestimate me." I warned. "Get to bed and you shall wake up to see me sitting down next to my new friend."
"I hope this is not another lie." He said and fixed his gaze on me, mirroring my eyes as though reading my past.
"Not a lie. I can see your strength forming." He said. "Noah's getting a girl. Who is not surprised?"
