The Shinigami set up a meeting with the Head Commander himself, the old man with the power to bitch-smack anyone in the room.
He was the strongest Shinigami in Soul Society right now... kind of lost his "strongest Shinigami alive" title about two months back, though. He shall have no idea why until two weeks later.
Sora looked at the old man. He felt nothing right now. He did not care. He didn't give two fucks right now.
"This is not a matter the Gotei 13 should involve itself with."
Sora barely blinked. Didn't care. The old man overlooked one single detail.
Sora wasn't a Shinigami. Sora wasn't part of the Gotei 13.
Yamamoto's sharp gaze bore into him, like staring at a misbehaving student. As if Sora gave a damn.
"I forbid you from going to Hueco Mundo."
Who the fuck did this old man think he was? Sora was not going to take orders from him when his brother's life was in danger.
The memory of the last time he left a Quincy's life in the hands of a Shinigami—
The way his grandpa had been brutally beaten for hours, yet the Gotei 13 did nothing.
Sora's fingers dug into his palm.
Remembering his grandpa.
"I'm going."
His voice was calm, no anger leaking out, yet his trembling hand did little to hide how he was feeling right now.
"You are correct," Sora continued. "This isn't Shinigami business. It's my brother. And I'd be damned if I left his fate to the Shinigami. I made that mistake once, and my grandpa died. I am not doing it again."
Oh... OH, so this was personal. Personal.
"Only to fucking find out his soul was being messed with by a scientist. Why should I trust your damn words?"
Oh. So it was good luck Mayuri wasn't here... shit would have ended tragically. Badly. Horribly. Poorly. Inadequately. Incorrectly. Unsatisfactorily. Deficiently. Wretchedly. Faultily. Imperfectly. Disastrously.
You get the gist.
Sora didn't hate Shinigami per se. For one, he was banging one. He just did not trust them with Quincy lives.
It was like a Native American asking some Europeans to care for their lives and protect them.
...
...
Shit doesn't end well.
"You will stay."
"No."
"You defy my command?"
"That would imply I was working with you to begin with," Sora said in a rather calm voice.
"And do you really think I should take your word for it? The man who looked away as Mayuri slaughtered god knows how many Quincies, who, mind you, had nothing to do with that mustache bastard? You allowed that shit to happen, and I'm just supposed to listen to your orders and think you, out of everyone, cared about my brother's life? Bullshit."
"I'm not a Shinigami. I will go, whether you like it or not."
The old man stared at him for a long moment before responding.
"Then you will receive no support from the Gotei 13."
"I do not need it." Sora's voice sounded different, almost... {########}... [godlike].
POV Change
Sora stepped through the doors of his home, tension still hanging over him like a storm cloud. He wasn't even surprised when he saw Ryuken waiting for him.
The older Quincy stood with his arms crossed, unreadable as always.
Sora swallowed before speaking. "I'm sorry."
He was sorry. He was deeply sorry. He failed as an older brother. He could not protect his little brother.
He failed at his one single job.
He felt like a failure of a big bro.
Ryuken raised an eyebrow.
"I promised to keep him safe. And I failed." Sora clenched his fists.
"Just bring him back," Ryuken finally said after a while.
Sora blinked. He had expected some scolding... not this.
That was it? No lectures? No insults?
"...I will," was his calm reply.
Ryuken nodded, stepping aside.
Sora didn't waste another second.
He stormed into his room.
His fingers slid across his all-white Quincy uniform, the Himmelritter insignia glowing faintly as he put it on.
The training weights came off.
He could feel it—for the first time since the Soul Society, his power was going to be used at full force.
Now to find a way to Hueco Mundo.
Sora stood before Kisuke Urahara, the only man who could give him what he needed.
"...I need a way into Hueco Mundo."
Kisuke studied him for a long second, wondering about some question.
The hat tilted slightly, hiding his expression.
"...You look like you're about to kill someone."
Sora didn't deny it. He wanted to kill Aizen.
"He got my brother."
"Hm, yeah, probably would do the same," the man said calmly.
He then turned before leading Sora to his basement... under his candy shop. He wasn't a child lover, he swore.
He says as he had three kids working for him. Fuck.
Machines hummed as Kisuke adjusted the settings, the portal to a Garganta slowly forming.
Sora stepped forward—
"Where do you think you're going without us?"
Sora turned his head sharply—he made sure he was fast. Like, fast enough to leave before anyone could join him.
Standing there were Ichigo, Chad, Orihime, and... Rukia.
"Why are you all here?" He didn't want to put them in trouble.
"The hell kinda question is that? One of our friends got taken," Ichigo said in his typical Ichigo response.
"Uryu's our friend too, Sora-kun," Orihime said sweetly.
And Chad... Chad gave his usual Chad face.
He then turned to Rukia. At the end of the day, she was a Soul Reaper. Was she disobeying the law?
"...Rukia." His voice was softer. "You know the Captain-Commander forbade this. If you go, you could be punished."
She didn't move.
"...Please," he said, and his tone wasn't commanding—it was pleading. He didn't want her to get in trouble because of him.
"Please think this through," he said in a soft voice.
Then—SMACK.
His face turned slightly as Rukia's palm connected with his cheek.
His eyes widened. That stung... a lot.
And once again, his auto-defense did not turn on. So, no ill intention was detected.
She stood there, fire in her eyes, her hand still raised.
"...Do you think I'm weak?"
Sora opened his mouth, but she cut him off.
"Did you really think I would just sit back and watch while you do this?"
Her violet eyes burned.
"I am your girlfriend, Sora." She stepped closer, jabbing a finger into his chest. "Or did you forget that part already?"
Sora stared at her.
Then, slowly, a grin spread across his face.
Sometimes he seemed to forget that she was feisty. That was good to know.
