Chapter - 5 For the Sake Of The Nation

Abyss's Point Of View

I had spent the whole night trying to formulate a plan to get out of here faster, no matter my age. I kept coming up short, because I just didn't know enough about this world. It was a frustrating realization.

Also, as I was trying to make my plans, a weird ominous feeling crept up my spine, and had suddenly grabbed me by the throat. I couldn't even begin to imagine what it was. It was a terrifying and sobering thought, to think it might be the Gods, angry at me for plotting against them.

When morning came, I was both physically and mentally exhausted. I wanted to sleep as much as possible, but it seemed my relatives were more impatient than I thought they'd be.

"Young Master Abyss, it's time to wake up now." Sanna said, as she stepped into my room.

"Oh? You're already awake? Well let's get you washed up. The rest of the family will be here within the hour." She said, picking me up and taking me directly to the bath.

"Bath" was too generous a word. It was really just an oversized metal box they filled with water, and then used fire magic to warm up. I felt like a human stew, everytime they put me in this thing.

Once I was washed and dressed, I was ushered out of my room and down to the main foyer, to await the family. On my way to my parents, Sigghfreid tripped me and I hit the ground, hard.

I looked up at him with a glare, and he smirked at me evilly. It was unbelievable. He's was a bigger child than I was.

'I hope you get sent to the army and break your arm!'

"Are you okay sweetheart? That was a nasty fall. You aren't bleeding anywhere right?" Mother asked

"No. I'm fine. This kind of thing happens when you have a jealous older brother, no?" I said, inadvertently telling on Sigghfreid.

"Sigghfreid, you will behave yourself today, or I will send you to the Military Academy!" Father said, sternly.

"Why are you threatening me!? He's obviously lying!" Sigghfreid whined.

"You heard what I said! If you keep picking on him, then one day in self defense he could end your life. You need to understand the power gap that is between you two, and come to terms with your inability to close said gap. If he doesn't learn magic control first, your actions will have very real consequences." Father scolded.

"They are arriving my lord." Mahla said abruptly.

Father picked me up, and we walked out of the house to greet everyone. The procession of carriages was ridiculously long. The last carriage to pull up was extravagant as hell, so much so, that I could immediately tell that everyone around me became tense the moment it came into view.

For a moment it felt as if time had slowed. No one moved, and no one said a thing. Then, the door to the extravagant carriage opened first, followed shortly by all the others.

"My King, we are honored by your attendance today." Father said, as he set me down and crossed his arms over his chest in an 'X'.

"Please don't trouble yourself. I heard that my nephew was given an abundance of blessings. So I came to see for myself." He said, as he scooped me up and ruffled my hair.

"Duke Harhrold, Dutchess Aimee. Marqueed Bazzel. Vicountess Lah'idee, Viscount Randal. Baron Stahnley, Baroness Nihna. Welcome, all of you. Please, do come in." Mother said.

"Seriously, sister. Must you always be so formal. Just greet us normally." Uncle Stahnley groaned.

"Ahaha! But that would be improper, and a disservice to you all." She chuckled.

We made our way back into our home, while Father basically floundered about because the King had yet to put me down. But if you asked me, Father should really be used to this by now. Uncle Tihtus did this every time he came to visit.

None of our family acted like royalty while at our home. Only my parents tried to remain formal. I assumed it was to teach us the proper way of things, but honestly, it was a relief that they weren't uptight nobles.

As we all got situated in the Parlor room, the servants began to bring out tea and snacks. I had showed them how to make pound cake and sweet rolls, and they had clearly wanted to impress the other nobles.

"My goodness! Mayvis, just what the hell is this delicious cake?!" Aunt Aimee exclaimed.

"Haha. That is a secret. We will give the details at a later date." Mother chuckled mischievously.

"I look forward to it ever so much." Aimee replied, eyes glimmering.

"Yes. I too, look forward to sharing this among my staff." Uncle Tihtus agreed.

I could see the servants sharing smug grins and congratulating one another, off to the side in a corner.

"Now then, Let's get down to tax of brass." Uncle Tihtus said, clearing his throat.

And so, I began to tell my story. The same abridged version I had given my parents. The servants and our relatives all looked at me in shock

Then, Uncle Tihtus lept to his feet and exclaimed, "Show me!" Taking everyone by surprise.

Having no other choice, I opened my status window once again.

"T-Thank you, Uncle..." I mumbled.

"Harhrold, you must teach him concealment magic post-haste. Countries would go to war to have him in their region. No one must know until he is able to properly protect himself. Is that understood?" Uncle Tihtus demanded, basically eliminating the issue of Father needing to ask first.

"For the sake of the nation, it shall be done." Uncle Stahnley replied, eagerly.

'Well that was easy...'
