A glowing light illuminated my surroundings as I stepped in inside.
'So this is the barrier between me and a horde of memory beasts? It seems... weak. So how does it do it?'
Its green light reflected on the walls and then extinguished itself leaving a wall made out of air.
'Wow! I've never seen something like this. So air is the magical wall that protects us? It's a little terrifying to think of. A shiver ran down my spine at the thought of it.
It was an interesting skill. But did it belong to the facility itself? Or was it someone's skill? If it was, then he was definitely powerful. There are many safe zones only in this room, having to power them all every night has to be tiring.
I sat down, a gust of dust spreading itself in the air from the force.
Knowing I wouldn't have to run for my life again felt good.
'This was the second night, and I had survived with little to no actual difficulty. Damn it! This didn't make sense.' I laid my head in my small palms, there were many questions, but few answers.
Well, no reason to worry. Things are going well so I shouldn't jinx it. But I do wonder, what beast would want to contract with someone who just stayed inside a protected zone the whole trial. I wouldn't, but I guess I'm not a good example as I wouldn't have done it even if they slain the most powerful beast... wait that would have been me so even if I- you know what forget it.
As I let out a deep breath, I heard a weird sound. I turned slowly and was met by a weird screen, not like the one from before. It didn't have that angelic look, with the color pallet wings and halo. Instead, it had a cosmic amethyst as its main color, with rings circling it. Tiny rocks orbited the rings like satellites.
'And just when I began to relax. What is it.' My face had an annoyed look as if I had been woken up from the sweetest dream.
But that look quickly turned to terror. My hand trembled and I lost balance, making me fall. My eyes were shaking, and I started to breathe heavier, as the air lacked oxygen completely. I had turned pale as if my blood had been drained out of me.
I slowly read the words said on the screen.
[From today, low-capacity save zones will be deactivated. Good luck!]
'Fucking piece of shit, you can't do that!'
I was filled with anger, but at the same time was shivering from fear. What do you mean good luck?
This was bad, not only would I have to survive the night among memory beasts. But who knows what this damn trial would change next?
My head shifted at the sound of a stone door rubbing against the hard ground as it opened, the other side was filled with darkness, making it difficult to see.
Out of it, a figure emerged. It had long legs, but they were slim, to the point where the white color of the bone could be seen in some places. At the end of the legs, were two hooves, each rotten to their core. Mole growing inside them. His chest had been reduced to its ribs and organs, only some small pieces of muscles wrapped around the bones, trying to protect them from any more damage.
Some of its guts were dripping to the floor, smearing it with black blood. Two long arms were attached to what remained of the torso. They reached the floor with their long claws, that were sharp enough to cut steel.
Its head was a terrifying skull of a deer, with some worn down antlers. Bugs crawling on them, eating them from both the outside and inside.
I watched as it opened its terrying mouth, its teeth looked like razers. They shined through the darkness that surrounded him.
I was like a gigantic tarantula crawling outside of its orbit and going inside the other as worms made holes inside its insides.
Was this really a memory beast? It looked more like a creature straight out of a nightmare!
I've never seen anything like this in my whole life. What's behind that door? Is it just a series of rooms like this one filled with beasts? Are they torturing the beast too? What other explanation would there be?
My heart stopped as this beast turned its head and looked straight at me.
'Oh come on! This isn't fair!'
I said with a trembling voice as I started running, the beast following me on its too feet.
Luckily it wasn't that fast, or maybe it was fast, but the damage to its body had weakened it.
The terrified screams of others echoed through my ears making my hair rise.
This beast was killing anyone who got caught in its chase. People got their heads sliced off by its sharp claws, or their organs gushed out from being stabbed in their abdomen.
Blood covered the stone floor, painting it in a red color. How many have died so far? Ten? Twentie? Maybe thirty?
My feet scrapped the floor as I made a quick stop, seeing that I've ran into a dead end.
I turned quick enough to see the beast's claw flying toward my eyes and was able to react just in time to dodge the attack. The monster slammed its hand against the wall and got it stuck.
This was the perfect chance to do something, but I didn't know how.
'Damn it, what do I do!'
As my mind was racing for an answer, an idea soon followed.
'There shall be Light!' I said while raising my hand in front of me for an attack to come out.
But nothing happened. I froze, my eyes slowly looking back at the monster, who had just released its arms.
'Shit! Why didn't it work? I wasted a perfect chance.'
The monster turned to me and slowly approached.
'Well now, calm down. It was just a joke I wasn't actually trying to attack you earlier.'
That comment clearly angered it, its anger being shown in a mighty roar that echoed through the whole facility. Im sure some walls cracked from it.
'Tell my mother I love her.'
