I heard the gentle voice of an angel speak into my ear, or at least that's what I think it was. As that voice spoke, another screen appeared, and as you would expect, it was just like the first time it appeared. This time, its halo shined brighter, and its wings seemed more developed as if it had grown from its juvenile stage to finally entering adulthood.
The words read.
[Skill unable to activate. To activate the skill you'll have to say its name in a tone that will satisfy it.]
'What psycho thought it was a good idea to have to satisfy your skill before you activate it.' I mumbled to myself in frustration, as I stepped to the side just in time to escape another one of the beast's attacks.
'There shall be light!' This time I said it with a more confident tone, in contrast to my earlier attempt where my voice was full of desperation.
[Skill unable to activate. To activate the skill you'll have to say its name in a tone that will satisfy it.]
I sighed, trying to calm myself. I ducked and went under the beast's legs, then started to run again.
'There shall be light!' In this attempt I let my anger fill my words, maybe that's what it wanted, anger, and the intention to kill.
[Skill unable to activate. To activate the skill you'll have to say its name in a tone that will satisfy it.]
'Eat my ass! Does that work?'
[Skill unable to activate. To activate the skill you'll have to say its name in a tone that will satisfy it.]
'Oh yeah, damn it, I thought it would work.'
I said mockingly.
I was growing slower, my muscles were burning like hell, and every time I moved my bones, they made a screeching sound. I was growing tired.
But the beast wasn't, it scratched the wall as it ran towards me. Making chunks of stone fly in the air. It looked the same as it did at the beginning, but this time it was colored in human blood.
I took a deep breath and calmed down. A clear head can figure out everything... right? Well even if it doesn't, it's not like panicking is better.
'There shall be light!' My voice was calm, there was no emotion going into it. Just pure words.
I turned myself to the beast, closed my eyes, and in a quick motion, I mimicked a sword attack I had seen that trash hero use against me. My hand, though holding only the air, moved gracefully. I had never held a sword before, yet it felt like I've wielded one my whole life. My fingers wrapped against the invisible hilt and moved in an unnatural way. I moved my invisible sword into the air and sliced it down.
The chaos had stopped, and my ears weren't sensing any sound. What had happened?
[You have slain a pawn class beast, Wendigo]
My eyes flew open, then widened. Did I hear that right? But how I couldn't have beaten that beast with an invisible blade? That doesn't even exist, it was me making something up from the desperation.
I looked at my hand, which now held a sword made out of beautiful white flame. It shined brightly, eradicating any darkness around it. The fire was bursting about, almost as if it wanted to escape. 'H-How?'
[Skill has successfully activated, good job on satisfying the requirements.]
'So it took the form of a blade, is this its original form or did it conquer itself in this shape to complement my attack? Also.'
I turned my head and saw I was missing my shadow. It had completely disappeared, like it never existed. But what did this mean, was it a bad thing, or a good thing? Could it damage me in any way?
But as I was trying to figure out the mystery of this annoying skill, I heard the howling sound of more beasts. This time, I could sense the desire in their voice, the anger, and the wrath they were storing inside.
Out of the darkness of the giant gate, a bunch of beasts identical to the one from before entered. Their appearance was as scary as the other, maybe even more horrifying.
Seeing this, I grinned. Now that I was able to use my powers, I couldn't finally show these beasts that I was their king. I was going to make them kneel to me, make them suffer for disrespecting me.
Bodies covered the stone floor, blood poured out of their bodies like a waterfall. The metallic smell was nauseating, I felt my inside crawling up my to my mouth, trying to escape. I covered my nose with the word down shirt and took deep breaths trying to calm down.
I then ran toward them, holding my sword tightly in my hand. The fire burning the inside of my palm, leaving a red mark that hurt like hell. But that was not what i had to focus on right now.
Noticing me running toward them, they turned to me with bloodlust in their eyes, as if they needed to kill to leave. And with their terrifying long claws, tried slashing my bodies into rolls.
'Yeah sorry but I don't really like human sushi.'
But as I was about to dodge the many incoming attacks, I felt my body collapse. My body wasn't working, and my mind was on a long break.
[The lack of your shadow has exposed your soul to the evils hiding in the darkness, forcefully deactivating your skill for survival.]
'I'm not going to survive either way damn it!' I thought while the giant claws of the monsters slowly got closer and closer.
But it wasn't like I was going to see how this ended, as I blacked out before their attack reached me.
There is only one thing I remember. It was a screen. What was written on it again? Oh yeah, it read.
[You have survived the second night. Good Job!]
