Stone Angels

[Your skill [Pawn Of Despair] has leveled up and has become the new skill [Pawn Of Adaptability]

Just the one I was hoping to level up. Though, I did use it so it's a little disappointing that I'll have to wait for some time.

[Pawn Of Adaptability]- Most of the time, soldiers die because of their weakness against a specific power. Many, acknowledged this, but few adapted to this. It was actually easier for weaker beings to commode this technique, while the strong kept true to their power. You can now use copied skills twice.

'Dang it.' I was hoping for a cooldown reduction or a way to copy passives. But I guess this was good enough. Better not to complain or fate will turn its back on me.

[Would you like to ascend to the fourth floor?]

'Yeah... sure.' I was growing tired, using my skill on each of the armors proved helpful, but also consumed a lot of energy. So hopefully the next floor won't use my skills a lot.

...

[Welcome to the fourth floor, Sad Angel.]

As I got to the fourth floor, I noticed many statues of angels crying. Some were covering their eyes, while some were tearing it with their claws. The room itself was just a stone box. Nothing special.

There was no sound, and the only smell here was the smell of stone and my odor.

The placement of the statues was circular, going around me. Only one stood outside it, on a throne. And unlike the others, it had a big grin on its face.

As I looked at it confused, I heard the sound of stone rubbing against the floor. I turned around to see that the statue had moved, but only by some centimeters. As I was examining it, the same sound came from where I had been looking before.

'Are they moving when I'm not looking?' That was exactly what was happening, these stone statues, moved whenever I looked away, but froze whenever I stared at them. Was it because of their insecurity?

The thing was, I couldn't look at all of them the whole time. So really, I was fucked.

I looked at the statue, which had also moved. But only its face, which now was laughing. Seeing this I looked back.

...

[Copied skill. [Outside Vision] Would you like to see the description.]

The system repeated itself after I got done with that pile of armor. 'Yes'

[Outside Vision]- This world has taken your sight. You cried and prayed to be able to see again. Your prayers were heard, but not in the way you expected. This skill allows you to see outside your body like eyes are above your body.

I should have probably listened when people said my gambling addiction was keeping me down. Well, at least it seemed better than the other. Speaking of it, the other skill I copied proved really useful, so who knows? But there were higher chances for it to be helpless.

'You should judge a book by its cover.' Eyes never lie.

...

'They do lie!' I said while I activated this so-called skill.

[You have used skill [Outside Vision], remaining duration 60 seconds.]

I sighed, as I heard of stone scraping the floor stop. It had worked. 'Lesson learned, never judge a book by its cover.'

Right now, my eyes were above everyone, allowing me to see each of the statues. Though I have to say, it was weird. All my other senses were working where my body was, and my sight was outside that zone, so it was really nauseating... but at the same time cool!

[Remaining duration 30 seconds.]

As I heard the system talk, I froze. But quickly regained my cool.

Now to the important question, how was I going to break that statue? Well, there is only one way to damage a stone. 'With stone.'

Around my palm, a purple aura appeared, and then, the same aura appeared on one of the frozen statues. As I raised my arm, the statue started to rise, but only some centimeters. 'Damn it!' Making a full-stone statue fly was definitely harder than a small sword.

Because of the weight of the object I was trying to lift, my finger started breaking, and the noise of the bones slowly falling apart was frightening.

[Remaining duration 10 seconds.]

'Shut up damn it.' My many uses of [Kings Authority] had finally caught up to me, and my powers were growing weaker. Instead of making the stone float, it was going on a slow descent.

[Remaining duration 5 seconds.]

Seeing how one hand wasn't enough I tried using both of them. And with that, I was able to make it float again. But it was still hard to move.

I took a deep breath, putting all my strength into one last push, some of my bones breaking in the outcome.

[Remaining duration 0 seconds.]

...

[You have slain a pawn class beast, Wicked Angel.]

[You have slain a pawn class beast, Crying Angel.]

I fell to my knees, my arm swinging in as if there was no bone. I smiled weakly as I looked at the two crumbling statues. And it felt better seeing them with my eyes in my own body. I was filled with joy, I had thought it was over, but looks like I managed to pull through. By the brink of death, but I did it.

I had to do something about situations like this.

[Would you like to ascend?]

Of course, I didn't! Ascending was a death wish, no matter what was next, the fifth floor would probably eve-

'Wait, why was it asking it if I wanted to ascend and not if I wanted to ascend to the fifth floor? Was I just overthinking it? Or was there really a meaning to it? Did the difference matter? Did the system not specify the floor because its number was obvious?

'Damn it! Why do things always have to be so confusing!'

This single choice would decide everything. Was I going to risk it? Or was I going to be a responsible adult and play it safe?

A cocky grin ripped on my face.

'Well, I'm not an adult, am I? Yes, I wish to ascend!'
