Part 8

"So, what's next?" Charles asked Cassandra when the girl had just come down from the second floor.

Cassandra sat beside Charles; the incident at the cafe yesterday had made her feel more comfortable talking to Charles.

"I don't know, Charles, I don't have a solid plan yet. I've studied some of his plans and I think there are some things that seem interesting, but I'm worried that he will laugh at me," Cassandra said softly while looking down.

Charles put down his tablet and smiled, "Do you want to go to every event that your ex-fiancé will attend? If you want to do that, of course he'll think of you as the one who keeps chasing him."

Cassandra shrugged, "I don't know, but I really have a grudge against them."

Charles chuckled, and he pinched Cassandra's nose anxiously. "You can hold a grudge and be disappointed in her, but you have to remember that you have a brain to think with. Don't act stupid!"

Cassandra snorted in annoyance. "Never mind, if you're going to talk to me just to insult me, I'd better leave!"

The brunette was sulking again. She stood up and started to leave Charles, but her husband managed to pull her hand away. "Cassandra, stop sulking like a child. It won't solve your problem!"

Cassandra folded her arms across her chest and looked up at Charles, "Then what do you think? Seizing what is rightfully mine?"

Charles smiled slightly and raised one eyebrow. At that moment, Cassandra's face changed slowly. Cassandra's previously gloomy face began to show a bit of cheerfulness.

"I just remembered. The hotel was inherited from the Roger family for generations, and it's clearly written on the will, and mom also told me this. If it's being managed by Vivian now, it's not against the law, and I should still be able to manage it," Cassandra said confidently.

Charles applauded. "You're very good, Cassandra. That's exactly what you should be doing. Stop being sad and sulking. Right now you have to think about what you should do. You don't want your late mother's family to grieve in the afterlife, do you?"

Cassandra shook her head. "No... I won't let this happen."

"Then, you should take care of the legalities so that you can still manage your late mother's hotel," Charles replied.

Cassandra nodded, then sat down beside Charles and pressed her body against his. Charles, who saw that, glanced at her with a faint smile. "You don't usually sit this close to me. What do you want?"

Cassandra chuckled. "Apparently you know what I mean."

"So? Tell me what do you want?"

Cassandra looked deeply at Charles. "Can you accompany me to see my late mother's lawyer? He can arrange the legalities."

"Ok," Charles replied.

Immediately, they drove to the office of lawyer Tom Harris, who was mandated to manage Emily Roger's inheritance.

"Cassandra, aren't you sure that the office is here? Doesn't the signboard clearly indicate that this is Tom Harris' lawyer's office?" asked Charles when he saw his wife just standing still beside him.

Cassandra's eyes were now rounded, and her body looked stiff, like someone in shock. Charles waved a hand in front of her face and looked at her thoughtfully.

"Cassandra... are you not sure?"

"Uh sorry, but that's...." Cassandra then pointed at the white Mercedes in front of her.

"That... that was my dad and Megan's car, but why are they here," Cassandra asked in a shaky voice.

'Cassandra, what's going on with you. I really hate hearing your voice like this. I don't like it when you have to cry,' Charles thought as he held Cassandra's hand and gave her strength.

"Maybe they have an interest in lawyer Harris, like taking care of legalities or something," Charles said.

Cassandra immediately turned to her husband. "Legalities? What legalities are they talking about? My father's company does not have a good financial history, not even closing the company until now is still fairly good. As for Megan, she came to our house with only a suitcase of her clothes and Vivian, she has nothing."

"Don't you think anything?" asked Charles with a serious look.

Cassandra let out a long breath, but before she could answer Charles' question, she saw her father and Megan coming out of the door of Harris' lawyer's office. They were walking with the lawyer and chatting intimately.

"What are they doing there. Could they be taking care of the hotel's legalities?" Cassandra asked softly as she prepared to open the car door. "I can't stand by and let this happen. I have to go to them and stop this madness!"

Again, Charles held Cassandra's hand, "Don't be rash and run them over. There's no point. It's better to find out what's really going on first."

"How? They've already made an official statement that the hotel will be managed by Vivian and Jordan as an inheritance from my father, and now you're asking me not to prevent them from doing anything further?" Cassandra protested.

Charles immediately ordered his driver to get out of the car and approach Cassandra's father and the lawyer. "Make sure you keep your cell phone to your ear and don't let them know you're listening in on their conversation!"

"Yes Boss!"

Charles glanced at Cassandra, "After your father leaves, and the lawyer comes in, then it's our turn to go see him!"

"Ok, I really can't wait to find out what they're up to."

Meanwhile, in the Miller family living room...

Vivian didn't stop beating the sofa cushions as she continued cursing. Occasionally, Jordan, who was beside her, was also affected.

"What a bitch. How is it possible that Cassandra can act that arrogant in front of us, when she used to be so stupid. What the hell is going on? Has that man brainwashed her?" complained Vivian.

"This is all because of you nagging me to hold our first anniversary celebration at the cafe. I told you that we should keep to ourselves, and not let anyone else sniff out our relationship. It's too early for both of us to have a celebration!" Jordan retorted fiercely.

Vivian glared at him, "Are you blaming me?"

"If not you, then who? What if you hadn't asked me to celebrate our anniversary? Of course no one would have talked about our relationship. Now you see for yourself, how the people at the cafe are talking about the two of us? I told you that we should put all the blame on Cassandra!"

Vivian looked down and cried. Her sobs became increasingly audible, which annoyed Jordan. 'Huh, she can only cry and whine. She's spoiled, but if I don't obey her, I'll be the one in trouble.'

Jordan then approached Vivian and took her hand, "Honey I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scold you. I was just so upset that I couldn't control myself."
