Kaine's Pov
The cool water of the lake lapped against my skin as I floated on my back, staring up at the canopy of leaves overhead. After a full day of tracking in wolf form, the swim was a welcome relief for my aching muscles.
"You know, Ed," I called out to my friend paddling nearby, "Mellie's been asking about you again."
I called my sister yesterday to check if everything was fine. She was still upset with me for not including her in this expedition, but she indirectly asked about "Ed" at least three times.
Ed splashed water in my direction, his usually stoic expression breaking into a scowl. "Knock it off, Kaine. You know it's not like that between us."
I smirked, enjoying his discomfort. "Oh? And why not? You two have been dancing around each other for years. What are you waiting for - an engraved invitation?"
