Chapter 2

Aurora James - POV

"Sweetie! Is that you?" I heard my mother's voice coming from the kitchen as I walked inside the house.

"Yes, Mom," I answered as I walked down the hallway and entered the kitchen. She was wearing a pastel pink apron that I stitched during ninth grade, with her blonde curls tied up in a bun as she took the lasagna out of the oven.

"You are back early?" She asked me as she turned around with a smile on her face.

"I finished work early," I answered as she placed the dish on the table and took a seat as I followed her. Mom didn't ask anything as she served the food, and we began eating in silence.

"Is there anything you want to tell me, honey?" She asked me after a pregnant pause, which made me look up from my food. I am not a person to express my emotions easily, but with my mom, I don't know how the floodgates opened, I felt my vision get blurry as the tears rolled down my cheeks.

She immediately placed her fork on the table as she got up from her place and hugged me, I wrapped my hands around her waist and cried. She didn't question me as I let out my feelings.

"Why does this always happen to me, Mom?" I stammered as I rested my head on her stomach as she stroked my hair.

"You found your mate."

"And he rejected me," I mumbled when her hands stopped moving. I moved away from her as our eyes locked.

"Darling, no one rejects their mate. That is unheard of. Maybe he was just nervous and…"

"We have known for the past three weeks, Mom. And I don't think rejecting your mate is unheard of." I answered when I saw her stiffen. I never intended to hurt her feelings, but I don't think we can always run away from the truth.

"It's not easy, Aurora. I think both of you should talk this out." She suggested, but I shook my head.

"I don't think Alpha Alonso would want a mate like me," I said when I saw her eyes widen in surprise. She was shocked, and I had a similar expression three weeks ago when I found out that he was my mate.

Well, the moon goddess always pairs the alphas and betas with mates who are holding the same position as them, so it was a shock when Elijah and I found out that we were mates because I was practically a nobody, just an ordinary member of the pack with no ranks.

"He was your mate?" Mom asked me, and I nodded my head.

"I don't think I can stay in this place anymore, Mom. It hurts to see him parade around our pack with another woman."

"What are you planning to do?" She asked me. I took in a deep breath as I looked her in the eye.

"I have decided to leave our pack," I answered when she immediately began shaking her head.

"I am not letting you become a rogue, Aurora. You know that is dangerous and…"

"No, Mom, I am going to join another pack."

"Have you applied?" She asked me, almost afraid to hear my answer, as I nodded my head. I saw disappointment in her eyes, but she didn't say anything. I have never hidden anything from her. A tense silence engulfed us as I waited for her to say something.

"Okay."

"Huh?"

"I think you are making the right choice, Aurora. You need to start afresh and find someone that your heart desires, and to do that, you need to leave this place. Maybe you might find your second chance mate."

"You know it is rare to find your second chance mate, mom."

"Yes, but I have a hunch that you might just find him." She asserted, and I was not going to argue with her right now.

Ding.

"I will get that." She said. She came into the kitchen after a few minutes, her face was blank as she held a white envelope. She gave me the envelope, I opened it to see that the letter was from Alpha Alonso.

Miss. Aurora James,

You are required to evacuate this pack before 10 a.m. tomorrow. Staying after the said time would be taken as trespassing and dealt with severe punishment.

Alpha Elijah Alonso.

Ping.

I took my phone out of my pocket and opened the message that I received from Elijah.

You can still stay in here if you just come to my house and apologize, Aurora. I want you back as my mate. - Elijah

I shook my head at his stupidity as I put my phone away and looked at my mother. "I am going to start packing," I told her and got up from my place.

"Let me help you pack." She said, and I nodded my head, and we walked out of the kitchen and walked up the stairs.

As I walked inside my room, I felt my lips quiver while my eyes looked around the place, I had spent my entire childhood. There was a wooden cupboard to my right, and right in front of me, there was a window that was overlooking the forest outside.

"Did you pack your shoes?" Mom asked me, and I nodded my head as I zipped the bags. It took us four hours to pack all my clothes and other belongings. I placed the last suitcase outside my door and looked around my room.

The room felt bare without my personal touch. "Let's go to sleep, honey. It's late." Mom said, and I nodded my head.

"Mom, can I sleep with you?" I asked her, and she nodded her head. I closed my room door and walked into her room. After taking a shower, we climbed into bed as she turned off the light, and the darkness engulfed us.

"How many packs did you apply for?"

"Just one," I replied when I saw her eyes on me.

"Which one?" She asked me as I heard the worry in her tone.

"Blue Moon pack." My voice was barely a whisper, but I knew that she heard it.
