Aurora James - POV
As the men walked outside, doctor Jenkins walked inside with a smile plastered on her face. "How are you feeling right now, Miss. James?" She asked me as she checked the heart monitor and then the drips.
"I can still feel the pain, but it is not as bad as back in the forest," I answered, and she nodded her head.
"Just before Alpha Alonso came into your room, I had taken another blood sample, and I just received the results from that test." She paused as she waited for her words to settle in. "Surprisingly, there are no traces of the poison in your blood, Miss. James." She sounded shocked.
"Maybe the medicines worked?" I asked her, sounding confused, but she shook her head.
"You were long gone, Miss. James. And I told Alpha Lopez that only your mate's blood could save you, and that is why he had informed your mate to come here." She said while my eyes widened in shock. Did Elijah give me his blood?
Is that why I am alive now?
If he did do that, it would have restored our mate bond as well. My heart began to palpitate when the heart monitor began to make a noise, which made Doctor Jenkins rush to my side. "Aurora, please calm down." She said when I looked at her.
"Did Alpha Alonso give me his blood?" I asked her when she shook her head.
"He did not, but there was something else mixed in your blood. I am not sure what, but that is what has saved you." She said, and I nodded my head. If my mate's blood was the only option for me to survive then, I think I have a hunch on who might have done this.
"Can I go back to my room, doctor Jenkins?" I asked when she checked her report and looked at me.
"You have broken your spine, and we had to place it in the correct place for you to heal. It would take two days for you to recover from that, Miss. James. But if you want to go back to Beta Perez's pack, then you can go, but I would suggest you stay on complete bed rest." She warned me, and I nodded my head.
For some weird reason, I felt safe when I saw myself staying in Beta Perez's pack, and with Alpha Alonso in there, I didn't want to stay in there. "Thank you, doctor," I told her, and she nodded her head before she walked out of the room.
As soon as the door closed, it opened again, and Beta Perez walked inside. An involuntary smile formed on my face as I saw my mate, which soon faded away when I saw that he was mad at something. "What is your relationship with Alpha Alonso?"
"Who are you to me, Beta Perez?" I asked him with a raised eyebrow when I saw the anger swirl in his eyes. "I don't think I have to tell you what is going on in my personal life. After all, I am only your secretary." I retorted, but he didn't say anything.
A tense silence surrounded us as I looked out through the window. "When is he leaving?" I asked after a while.
"Who?" Beta Perez questioned with a confused look on his face as I turned around to face him.
"Alpha Alonso," I said.
"He is planning to stay here for two weeks." Beta Perez replied, and now it was my turn to be furious. Doesn't he have a pack to run? "Apparently, he thinks that it is best if he stays in here so that he can persuade you to go back to his pack with him."
No, this can't be happening.
"Did Alpha Lopez agree to it?" I asked Beta Perez. Because I know there is a rift between the two packs, and I saw the strain in their conversation from the way the two alphas interacted.
"Yes, only because Alpha Alonso is your mate, and Alpha Lopez never comes in between a mate bond." He spat out the words. I know he is furious right now, but I don't know how can I explain my situation to him.
If I know one thing about Alpha Alonso, it is that he doesn't play fair, and a sense of dread took over my body as I thought about what he had in mind.
"We can tap into his thoughts and see what he has planned for us," Lily suggested, but I shook my head. That would be risky, and Mom has warned me to never use my power for my personal gains. None of us spoke for a long time when he finally walked out of the room.
Male wolves are possessive of their mate, and if they are high-ranking wolves, then it is worse, from the look on Beta Perez's face, I know that he is not going to let this slide easily.
Knock knock.
I looked at the door when it opened, and Levi walked inside. He closed the door behind him and made his way to the chair that was next to my bed. "I heard you woke up." He said, but I didn't say anything. "I am sorry, Aurora. If I had been there, this wouldn't have happened to you." Levi apologized, but I shook my head.
"I am sorry too. I shouldn't have spoken to you that way." I said when a smile graced his face.
"I guess we are even then?" He asked me, and I nodded my head. "How is your spine?"
"It is still painful. But I insisted that I wanted to go back to my room." I told him, and right then, the door opened, and Doctor Jenkins walked inside.
"I will check on your wounds, and then you can leave, all right?" She asked me, and I nodded my head when I saw Levi slip out of the room when two nurses walked inside. Once they had done a thorough examination, doctor Jenkins wrote down some medicines for me, and soon Levi walked inside to take me home.
