Finnian's beauty was like a double-edged sword for him. On one hand, it made it easier for him to disguise himself as a girl without being suspected. People often remarked that he looked a lot like his dead mother, with a slender figure and delicate long fingers. His milk-white skin shinning like jade, with his raven black hair reaching down to his waist.
A set of dimples adorned his cheeks anytime he talked or smiled, making him look even more endearing. The people of the court often said that his beauty had no match in all of the nine kingdoms.
However, not everyone was pleased with Prince Finnian's beauty. Princess Emily, in particular, was consumed by jealousy. She resented Finnian's long hair and delicate features, which seemed to captivate everyone who laid eyes on him.
Finnian recalled a painful day when Emily ordered her friends to hold him down, and she cut off his hair almost to the point of making him bald. She dropped his hair on his face and sneered at him, saying that he wouldn't be able to seduce all the men who had came to seek for her hand in marriage again.
"You think you're so beautiful, don't you, Finny?" Princess Emily taunted. "You think you can just bat your eyelashes and make all the men fall at your feet. But it won't work anymore, because you're not beautiful without your hair."
Finnian had been devastated by the loss of his hair, despite being a boy he loved his long hair and his dresses, he loved dressing beautifully and painting his face with makeup. He didn't come out of his bedchamber until his hair had grown and reached his shoulders.
Jolting back to the present, Finnian quickly excused himself, leaving Emily and her friends alone in the garden, eager to escape their malicious company. He walked back to his bedchamber, his mind replaying the uncomfortable encounter.
As he entered his chambers, he found his handmaiden, Diana, waiting for him. She looked up from her sewing, concern etched on her face.
"Where were you, Finnian?" Diana asked.
Finnian shrugged, trying to downplay the encounter. "I ran into Emily and her entourage in the garden," he replied, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Diana's eyes narrowed, her brow furrowing. "Did anything happen? Did she say anything to you? Turn around let me see your cloth and your hair, she asked quickly, her voice tinged with worry.
Finnian turned to face her, a reassuring smile on his face. "Calm down Diana Nothing happened." he said, his voice calm. "Don't worry about it. And please Diana call me finny." With that, Finnian walked into his room.
Back in Vorgaria, King Gerold summoned all the members of his council to the throne room. "My dear council members," King Gerold began, "I have given considerable thought to the ideal of a marriage alliance with the kingdom of Calonia, and I believe that it is a good idea."
The council members all looked at each other, some nodding in agreement while those still opposing the ideal glanced at each other skeptically.
King Gerold turn to the Royal secretary, "I want you to draft a contract outlining the terms of the alliance," King Gerold instructed. "We'll send a messenger to Calonia with the drafted contract, to inform them of our intention to propose an alliance marriage between our kingdom and theirs in hope of ending this war. We would like them to choose a suitable candidate for the marriage, and if they are in support of this decision, they should send a reply."
The council members nodded, taking notes as the king continued to outline his plans.
"I want this alliance to be a strong one," King Gerold emphasized. "We need to ensure that our kingdoms are united in a way that will bring prosperity and peace to both our people."
With the king's instructions clear, the council members all dismissed and each member set to work, drafting the contract and preparing the messenger to be sent to Calonia.
A few days after his encounter with princess Emily, Finnian strolled through his favorite spot in the garden, surrounded by vibrant flowers and beautiful butterflies. he wore a beautiful pink gown made of silk, lace and pearls, its delicate patterns shimmering in the sunlight. His raven-black hair cascaded down his back like a waterfall, and his porcelain skin glowed with a soft, ethereal light.
Finnian's eyes sparkled with joy as he played with the butterflies, his lips curved into a gentle smile, he was a sight to behold, like a vision of an angel on earth, and anyone who saw him couldn't help but be captivated by his beauty.
Just as he was about to turn a corner and sit on the grass, he was stopped by a handsome young man. Cassian, the son of Duke Drustan, bowing low before her, his eyes shining with admiration.
"Princess Finny, you look lovelier than ever," Cassian said, his voice smooth as honey. "May I have the pleasure of walking with you?"
Finnian smiled politely, but his eyes were darting around, searching for an escape. She knew that Emily was infatuated with Cassian, and he did not wish to incur the princess's wrath on himself.
"I'm afraid I have something to attend to, Lord Cassian," Finnian said, politely declining the offer. "Perhaps another time?"
Cassian looked disappointed, but he nodded graciously. "Of course, Princess. I understand."
Finnian curtsied and hurried away, hopping no one saw him talking to Cassian, after making sure that he was not being follow, he quickly stopped walking and took in a deep breath.
Despite Finnian's best effort to not be seen with Cassian, he didn't know that Emily had followed the young lord to the garden and witness their little interaction.
Seeing the boy she loved with her sworn enemy, Emily ran to her mother's chambers, tears streaming down her face. Queen Matilda, who was sitting in front of a mirror, admiring her reflection, turned to her daughter with a mixture of concern and annoyance.
"What's wrong, Emily?" Queen Matilda asked with annoyance in her voice.
Emily sniffled, wiping her nose with the back of her hand. "Mother I just saw Finny with Cassian, the son of duke Drustan." she sobbed. "The man I've been hoping Father would betroth me to."
Queen Catherine's expression turned cold. "Go on," she said, her voice dripping with venom.
Princess Emily's face twisted in a scowl. "She was throwing herself at him Mother, Finny has always snatched what belongs to me," she complained. "She's always been the favorite, always getting what she wants. But not this time. she want to snatch the man I love, but I won't allow it, I won't let Finny take Cassian from me."
"You have to do something Mother," Princess Emily spat, her voice venomous. "I won't allow Finny to snatch my man, just like her mother snatched our father from you."
Queen Matilda's eyes flashed with anger, her mind racing back to the past. She remembered how King Aldous had fallen in love with Finny's mother, a woman who had been nothing but a commoner. She remembered how the king's love for Finny's mother had torn her heart apart.
Queen Matilda's face twisted in a scowl, her heart burning with anger and resentment. She knew that she had to do something to stop Finny from snatching away the one thing that her daughter truly wanted.
Queen Matilda looked at her daughter. "I won't let Finny take what belongs to you, Emily," she vowed. "That girl has overstayed her welcome in this palace. She's been a thorn in our side for far too long."
Emily's eyes widened with excitement, and she leaned in closer to her mother. "What are you going to do, Mother?" she asked her Mother quietly.
Queen Matilda's smile was cold and calculating. "I'll find a way to rid us of Finny permanently," she said. "I'll make sure she's no longer a problem for us, just give me a few days to think about what to do with her, I promise she won't be able to disturb your marriage or your future happiness again after am done with her."
Emily's face lit up with joy, and she threw her arms around her mother's neck. "Thank you, Mother," she exclaimed. "I knew I could count on you."
Queen Matilda hugged her daughter back, her mind already racing with plans of how to get rid of Finny once and for all. She was determined to protect her daughter's interests, no matter what it took.
